About the organization:
In 2005, Living Compassion was introduced to Kantolomba compound, a slum on the outskirts of Ndola, Zambia. They found a community of 8,000 adults and 3,000 children lacking in all basic services: no safe drinking water, medical care, employment, adequate housing, electricity, or schools. The project began by feeding 40 children. Since then it has expanded to include a new well to provide clean drinking water; a community building which houses a medical center, a sewing cooperative, classrooms, and a gathering place for community support and connection; a school/food program which includes more children each year; a men’s cooperative; adult education programs; and support for micro-businesses.
In the few years that I have been involved with the Africa Vulnerable Children Project, I’ve had the pleasure of watching a desperate slum begin to transform into a thriving, self-reliant community.
I have been so moved by my participation in this project that I have committe myself to rasing $14,060 – $100/mile for a 140.6 Ironman triathlon I'm competing in this fall.
THANKS FOR DOING GOOD! – Tom and Joe
