About the organization:
We would like to introduce our non-profit charitable organization, formed in 2000 shortly after our founder; Carmela Short was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Carmela passed away in March of 2003, but her legacy lives on through this
wonderful organization.
Our sole purpose is to provide financial assistance & moral support to any man, woman or child in need of assistance while suffering the burdens of this disease as well as other forms of cancer or illness.
Since the forming of “Cure Mommy’s Breast Cancer”, we have granted over $500,000. We are in the truest sense a non profit organization as all our administrative work including legal & accounting are performed solely by volunteers. As a result we are able to donate approximately .98 cents of every dollar we raise.
Here are just a few examples of how we have helped:
• Paid medical insurance premiums
• Helped with daily living expenses
• Paid rent & utility bills of a patient unable to work while undergoing treatment
• Paid for home cleaning services for a cancer patient
We sponsor a scholarship fund at Plainedge High School. To date we have granted over $50,000. The students we award all have had a family member affected by cancer. We plan to continue our scholarship fund for years to come and hope with your help to increase the amounts granted on an annual basis.
Each year we hold events in an effort to raise money. This year we are hosting our 1st Annual Summer Charity Tennis Tournament from August 9-August 12 at Long Beach Tennis Center. Please check our website for more information.
We are currently a beneficiary organization for the LI 2Day Walk to fight Breast Cancer and are active in the many of the planning aspects of the event. We also have a team of girls to walk the 35-mile route.
