Lorena asks:
“Do canvas prints help with acoustics?”
Hi Lorena,
That’s a great question. Canvases are excellent at absorbing sound. The canvas itself is a woven fabric, stretched over a wooden support with a hollow back. It’s excellent for acoustics especially when compared to a traditional print framed with glass or plexi.
Best, Tom

“Hey guys, what is the best way to hang a canvas, and do you provide materials?

Hi Darrell,

That’s a great question. The best hanging method depends on what size canvas you order. The good news is we provide the appropriate hardware based on size.

For smaller canvases, under 16×20 we attach a sawtooth hanger. These canvases are very light, the sawtooth makes it easy to hang on a small nail or tack.

Sawtooth hanger

For larger canvases we include a set of beehive hangers. These are an ingenious invention. The beehives are attached to the back of the canvas with two screws and the supplied hanger is tapped into the wall. The unique honeycomb design allows the canvas to repositioned on the wall for straightness and alignment with other canvases.

Beehive Hanger

Plus, you have the optioned for a dustcover and wire hanger. For a modest cost we will adhere a paper backing to the canvas, attach a hanging wire and include rubber bumpers and courtesy hanger.

Finished backing and Hanging Wire

I hope this answers your question, call us at 800-801-6312 if we can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Tom

“Hi Tom and Joe! Last year I purchased a canvas for my poor cleaning lady that has a son serving in Iraq. I want you to know that tears streamed down her face when she opened her 16 X 20 photo of her son in uniform preparing for war. He is now stationed in Iraq. My cleaning lady (whose husband has been unemployed) does not have a computer that she could even e-mail her son. I thought perhaps you could award him with a free canvas that he could send home to his parents. I don’t think you were having this promotion last year. Your company personally called and we really had to work making the photo (with a distracting background and with much cropping) into a masterpiece. I will give you his address in Iraq. By the way, are you having Christmas discounts or promotions this year? ”

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for the nice note.

Q. Hi Tom and Joe, I’m an avid canvas/giclee/geek (actually, have ALWAYS been a geek – now just expanded the geekiness to fine art photography). Anyway, I have many canvases in storage. I want to check with you as to the physical storage conditions. The work is stored in my bonus room-over-my garage. Dry, no direct sunlight – but quite hot. The canvases are wrapped appropriately and are stored vertically so as to not stick together. Is this okay? My other question is in regards to the UV coating applied at your shop. Several of my pieces have gotten marks or little streaks from being transported and handled multiple times. What is the UV protectant made of, and how safe is it to try to clean the marks? Is there any type of solvent (that you know of) that won’t damage the canvas? If not, I have a growing problem of unsellable works. (Please note: these marks were not present on the work when I picked them up – it’s just ‘wear and tear’ from exhibiting).

A. (From Tom) Hi Fellow Geek,

First, thanks so much for trusting us with your reproductions. Keeping the canvases out of direct sunlight is a good thing. While the heat is not a problem in the short term, the ideal scenario is a cool dry place. I would be concerned that overtime there would be a problem. Big swings in temperature and humidity will make the canvas contract and expand and eventually lose its elasticity.

Regarding the marks from wear and tear of exhibiting, I’d really like to take a look before making a recommendation. If you send one to me, I can do some testing and provide a better answer.

We’re thrilled that you took us up on this offer. I’m sure it will make a special anniversary gift. Tom

Q. So many sizes and prices, frame or no frame, PhotoRealistic or PixelPainting! I’m getting ready to place an order, but with all these choices, how do I know what’s best for me?

A. (From Tom) We really enjoy giving our customers plenty of choices when it comes to turning their favorite photo to canvas, because we want it to be something they will cherish for years to come. But we also understand that making the right choice can be difficult–especially if you are a first-time customer. Here are five simple tips to help.

Consider your budget. At Canvas on Demand, we have selections to fit any budget–from a smaller, gallery-wrapped canvas to hang over your office desk to a spectacular wall exhibit that tells the big story of your family or business. Just go to the Canvas on Demand website and select prices and sizes. Remember to check out our special deals like getting the second identical canvas of the same image at half the cost! (A money-saving idea if you want to keep one and give the other as a gift!) And don’t forget that we will touch up some minor defects and enhance your image at no additional charge–like removing date stamps and red eye or sharpening contrast and correcting color balance.

Think about the effect you desire. If you are wanting a softer, gentler look with an artist’s brushstroke effect, you might consider PixelPainting rather than PhotoRealistic. You might also want us to change the background of your image.

Decide where your canvas will hang. Perhaps you prefer a gallery-wrap; but then again, one advantage to ordering a frame is that you can coordinate your canvas with the room’s style (traditional or contemporary) and the other finishes in your decor. We offer four premium frames. We also offer a standard black frame with a satin finish and a contemporary square profile.

Visit the Customer Showcase on our website. That’s where you will see all the creative ideas other customers have tried. You’ll be able to read their comments and testimonials and learn what they have to say about the images and options they selected.

Finally and most importantly, take advantage of our acclaimed customer service department! We are very proud of each of our service representatives. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and standing ready during regular business hours to walk you through every step and to answer every question. You can talk personally to them by phone or chat with them online.

I hope these suggestions help you make the choices that are right for you. Afterall…our goal is to know that you are absolutely delighted when your order arrives! Tom

Question by Tara:

Pottery Barn Teen has a wall mural for sale. You can upload a photo, and they will make a flat mural with brass holes and tacks for hanging. I think it’s something like 3′x4′. Do you offer anything similar or would you consider something like this in the future? While I personally like the wrapped canvas best, I can see that the mural would have an appeal for teen rooms or rec rooms, etc…

Answer by Tom.

Thanks for the question. We don’t have any current plans to offer that type of product. The pottery barn product is hung like a banner. I agree that there would be an appeal for teens for that product, but if they saw a gallery wrapped canvas, they’d really like it. Gallery Wraps are contemporary and have the dimensional aspect as well.

We’re always looking for new product ideas and love new ideas from our cutomers. For example, our new floating frame line was created, because we listened to a customer request. So, thanks again! Tom
