Founded August 1, 1991, the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra is the largest arts group in Irving. The Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) presents a season of eight subscription concerts annually at the Irving Arts Center under the baton of Music Director Robert Carter Austin. The ensemble’s professional musicians are chosen by competitive auditions from hundreds of applicants each year.

In 1999, the LCSO founded the Lone Star Youth Orchestra (LSYO), a full symphonic orchestra made up of middle school and high school students. The Lone Star Youth Orchestra primarily draws its students from students and surrounding communities, but it also includes many students from many other areas throughout the Metroplex. The LSYO is the only tuition-free youth orchestra in North Texas, and the LSYO firmly believes that music education should remain available to students of all socioeconomic levels. Members of the LSYO train with members of the LCSO through sectional training; have the opportunity to play alongside professional musicians of the LCSO as LSYO members sit second chair for a symphony concert; and earn scholarship money through our concerto competition.

Monday, May 20th, 2013

About the organization:

“Many small people, in many small places, do many small things that can alter the face of the world.” Anonymous

Marcy, of North Middletown, is a woman from a small community who has done so much for her others in her community. In March, Marcy was diagnosed with stage three throat cancer and lymphoma. Marcy has started undergoing medical treatment for her cancer. But the cost of this type of care is considerable and is taking a financial toll on Marcy and her husband. Marcy is currently out of work due to her condition and does not receive any disability compensation, so they are relying on their retirement savings.

Marcy is employed by the Middletown Board of Education working in the local school cafeterias. She loves being around children. She has done a lot of volunteer work with the local fire departments. Marcy has spent many days and night supporting the local firefighters, whether it was fundraising events or sitting for hours at a fire scene with water, food, and emotional support for the firefighters. Marcy was Vice President of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Shrewsbury Hose Company, and a current Ladies Auxiliary member for the Atlantic Highlands Fire Department.

“In helping others, we shall help ourselves, for whatever good we give out completes the circle and comes back to us.” Flora Edwards, Attorney
