Let us Help You Get your Boats in a Row!

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Here at Canvas on Demand, we love working with the creative ideas that our customers bring us!  We just got a note from Kathy from Gibsonia, Pennsylvania telling us about an idea she and her husband came up with.  I enjoy sharing stories like this one, because other customers write back to say it sparked an idea for them.

My husband and I love row boats…we have several photos and paintings of them throughout our home. When we moved into our new house with a two story family room, we decided to enlarge one to fill the large wall above our entertainment unit.

Working with Renee in customer service was fabulous.  She was knowledgeable, very helpful, and so patient with all of my many questions. We decided to go with a twelve-panel to add interest to the space. Canvas On Demand was fast, and they did a wonderful, professional job. Our finished piece arrived 2 days after being shipped, and we had it hung yesterday. We are THRILLED!  This artwork truly makes a statement, and our “Canvas on Demand” can be seen from several rooms of our home. I have already been singing the praises of this company to several of my friends.  Do not hesitate to give them a try; satisfaction is guaranteed. You won’t be disappointed!  Kathy

Thanks, Kathy, for the great story and wonderful testimonial.  I know you will enjoy your “Canvas on Demand” for years and years!  Mom

A Canvas Can Make a Special Occasion Even More Memorable!

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

A canvas can become a true keepsake when it commemorates a special event.  We were recently delighted to hear from Feliciai from Leonardwood, Missouri.  She contacted us to let us know a how pleased she was with her canvas which honored her fiancee’ at his military retirement.   Feliciai, it was our pleasure.  And we truly appreciate all the years that he served our country!  Mom

She said:  This is my fiancee’ with the Canvas On Demand art canvas at his 20-year military retirement ceremony. I am so impressed with your work. Thank you for redoing the canvas print and removing/adding a different picture and still getting it here so quickly!  I will forever be grateful to you guys! This meant so much to me and my fiance’. You made a real difference on this very special day, because you’re willing to go the extra mail to make your customers happy.  I will most certainly recommend you to everyone I know.  But be prepared for a lot of orders from the military!  Thanks again, Feliciai

My Dearest Little Grandchild

My dearest little grandchild,

Your eyes they twinkle bright.

They make me smile, make me laugh,

At each and every sight.

And your little button nose,

It begs for me to “beep”.

Your chubby cheeks and double chin,

They cause my heart to leap.

Because these words are not enough

I search for another way,

To show the world your preciousness

I take pleasure in each day.

I find my camera, set my lights

And off we go ‘click’ ‘click’.

To get the perfect capture,

How will I ever pick?

The first few snaps seem pretty good

But I think I’ll press my luck.

You start to fuss and pull your hat,

Oh, things have gone amok.

And when it’s finally time to choose

I look at each and every file.

It is not print 225

It’s the first shot, by a mile.

So next time I will tell myself,

“Nona (that means Grandmother),

Only one is necessary

Forget the thousand other!”

A Flood Can’t Dampen this Family’s Spirit

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

In late 2009 photographer, Katrina Wheeler, photographed the devestation caused by a flood near her home in Atlanta. But her heart just couldn’t stop with documenting it; she felt driven to do something positive to encourage the victims. So she put her talents as a photographer to work for the cause by doing photo shoots for the flood.

Canvas on Demand was honored to be part of her efforts by donating a canvas to one of the families that Katrina photographed, the Evans Family. The mom wrote us an email:

Dear Canvas on Demand:

My children and I have been forever changed by the experience that was afforded to us following the flood of September 2009.  We arrived at Powder Springs First Baptist Church expecting a 15-minute session for a couple of pictures.  Instead, we made memories that will last throughout eternity.  Our family needed a new start in more ways than one.  The floodwaters ravaged our residence, but those same waters also brought cleansing, purging, and divine restoration.  You were an intrinsic part of that, and as such, we pray God’s blessings upon you always.  Remember that what may seem like an occupation or vocation to you can be a profound life touch to someone else.  So, stay the course.

~The Evans Family: Deidre, Jourdan, and Joseph, II

Deidre, I don’t know how to respond to your beautiful note.  After all, the goal was for US to encourage YOU…but you simply turned the table on us.  Thanks for being such a strong and steadfast role model for so many.  Your children are blessed!  Mom

Kim Explains Inspiration for Winning Poem

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Mom:

Thank you so much!!!  I’m so happy to be a winner.  We just received the canvas yesterday and it was so beautiful it made me cry.   I truly appreciate the honor and am so glad to have this as a family keepsake.

I was inspired to write this because I began thinking about what Valentine’s Day really means.  I know it’s the holiday of “love”, and what God impressed upon my heart this year was that this day is about the unconditional love He has for us, and how this is manifested in the love we show to others

So I thought about the three precious daughters He has entrusted to me, and the unconditional love in my heart for them.  They are “sunshine” to my day…it is in them that I see goodness and hope and authentic joy.  My daughters are each so precious in their own way…my oldest, Grace – such an adventure lover…climbs the highest tree, jumps off the highest mountain, fearless and joyful in her outdoor adventures….And Faith, my middle daughter…always with the music turned up the loudest, singing all the time, dancing everywhere she goes, such a comedian and delight.  And then Hope, my youngest, the one born with a disability…the one I was told would never survive birth…she is truly a miracle before my eyes every day…her ability to walk, talk, love life…all the things I’ve been told again and again she’d never do…she is strong and such a delight to me.  So when I think about this love, I think about the God who cherishes me and gave me these amazing gifts.

This will hang in our home as a reminder of something beautiful and a special time in my life.

Thank you for this honor!

Kim Lytle

Precious gifts from our Creator

Vibrant, lovely, adventure girl…

Strong, funny, dancing girl…

Brave, beautiful, miracle to me…

My heart.  My love.  My greatest blessings.

Katie, Valentine Writing Contest Winner, Discusses her Work with Mom

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Hi Mom!

Thanks so much! I couldn’t believe that I won.

Alex is actually not my husband…not yet, anyway! ;) We have been dating for a year and three months, and we both knew from the start that we had found our other half. We met unexpectedly in the fall of 2008. My younger brother was in his first year at West Point (The United States Military Academy), and he was trying to set me up with a senior. He knew I’ve always wanted to marry a military man, probably because our dad is a marine, and we’ve been blessed to admire our parent’s rock-solid marriage for 23 years. It was risky business for my brother, since he wasn’t allowed to befriend upperclassmen as a “plebe.” Nevertheless, he told me to search for some people under West Point’s class of 2009 on Facebook, and lo and behold, Alex Sudyk was the first to pop up. We had a mutual friend – a girl I went to school with at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Since Moody is such a small school, I was very curious how they knew each other, so I sent him a message that introduced myself and inquired about my friend. Their connection was pretty uninteresting, but he wasn’t! We began messaging each other daily, over the course of three months. Finally, we met in person when I dropped my brother off at school after Thanksgiving break 2008. The next week we went on our first date, (which happened to be five hours after I had lasik eye surgery), which led to a second the next day at the 2008 Army/Navy game, and the rest is history. He graduated as a commissioned 2nd Lieutenant from West Point last May. Though long distance and life with the army is extremely hard, he makes it worth every single second. I’m counting down the days until we can be together forever.

Alex inspired the poem, which I composed in about 15 minutes. :) He used to be really into poetry, so I wanted it to be something special for him. The canvas turned out beautifully…we could not have imagined a nicer final product. It’s absolutely amazing, and was a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift to him! We plan on hanging it in our living room once we are married.

Thank you again!

Katie

My Soldier Has My Heart

I didn’t know what to expect

When I fell in love with a soldier.

Everything happened so fast and, suddenly,

With him I envisioned growing older.

The late-night calls, the beautiful cards,

He took my breath away.

His precious love swept me off my feet;

I know that it’s here to stay.

The Army brings many challenges,

But our love is the highest of pursuits.

Nothing will ever come between us:

Me and my hero in combat boots.

Even though, for now, we are apart,

And at night I long for his kiss

I count myself lucky, because in the end

I’m so glad I have someone to miss.

I’ve traded my pearls for his dog tags,

And from now until death do us part,

In good times and bad, through thick and thin,

My soldier has my heart.

Ginger Talks about her Winning Entry in Writing about an Image

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Hi Mom:

I appreciate the huge compliment. My photography gives me great joy to share with people, but my poetry is much harder to share. It shocks me that is resonates so much with other people.

I am always taking pictures. even if I don’t have a camera in hand, my eyes and heart are seeing them. But the end result is thousands of images that get buried. I am glad that I dusted off this old one I love for the competition. I almost send the email to the spam filter from Ryan, not even remembering that I’d entered a contest, my expectations were so low!

My husband and I work together as owners of Elijah Park Photography. In spite of a inconvenient day job as a engineer for him, we really strive to savor life. This was taken during one of our frequent outings in Downtown Portland, Oregon’s waterfront. It was just taken with a little snapshot camera. Kathryn, who now is 7, has always been independent, and this is a great reminder to me of what joy we’ve always taken in her spirit. But when I saw this image on the tiny old LCD screen, and was driven to hunt a piece of scrap paper in the car and write down what I saw in it.

It’s always hard to communicate to your partner that you desperately need some paper when you’re trying not to show you’re crying over a silly picture you just took! After ten years of marriage, I can say that he really understands now when I hit a incoherent creative moment.

I am going to display it with a companion piece of her sister that I am working on. Our younger daughter spent her first month of life in the Neonatal ICU due to a very rare tumor on her liver, and I want to frame that into words, but it is very difficult to do. I believe the preserving how I felt then is important to my day to day life now, and this is a wonderful way to do it.

Erik Tells Mom about his Winning Poetry Entry

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Hi Mom!

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to write about my photo. The inspiration for it all was my wife! My wife, Jane, is my heater on cold winter nights, she is the love of my life, and my muse. I love warm spring days! I love how laying in the sun warms me just like my wife does in the winter. I love being out in the sun, riding my bike, hiking and taking photographs whenever I can. I feel more alive and energetic in the spring, especially after the long dark winters. Jane makes me feel the same way. I smile every time I see her and every time I think about her (I’m smiling right now) just like I do when I think about warm spring days.

The photograph was taken this past summer at Cape May. I was watching and photographing the two swans as they swam together and nuzzled each other for quite a while. Eventually they were swimming with the whole swam family. Before I looked through the photos, I was hoping one of the shots I took of the parents nuzzling would come out great and this one did! It was pure luck that their heads and neck almost made a heart and that the reflection turned out as nicely as it did! I also liked how it looked with all but the orange desaturated more than in full color. It seemed to add to the loving mood of the swans.

The photograph and the poem go together so well! They look even better than I could have imagined! Just seeing it makes me smile. This piece will be a constant reminder of the love I feel for my wife.

Thank you for having this contest and for putting the two together so beautifully. Right now the piece is in our living room, but it will eventually find a permanent home in our bedroom.

Erik

My Warm Spring Day

As I peer into your eyes,
Into the neverending glow of light,
My heart goes thump,
I become lost in your gaze.
In this trance,
I dream of warm spring days.
Red, orange and yellow sunsets
Stretching across the horizon
Setting the world ablaze.
Flowers blooming
Sending their fragrance through the skies.
Birds singing,
Their beautiful songs filling my ears.
Fields of gold, forests of green
This world must be a dream!
You gently squeeze my hand,
Suddenly, I awake!
As I look upon your eyes and smile,
I realize
You are my warm spring days.
