Robert told us about the photo…
My wife and I attended the Marine Corps Ball this past November. We had a wonderful night, one to remember before I deployed.

Here’s what Robert had to say about Regina…
She is a very strong women! She has stood by my side through these past 10 years of my Marine Corps career. She has tended to our 3 children and I am blessed to have her as my wife and best friend.

Kevin told us about the photo…
This is a family photo, I like it because it shows our family, we are always there to rely on each other. Our family is the most important thing in our lives, we don’t travel this journey alone, we do it all together.

Here’s what Kevin had to say about Nadine…
We just celebrated our 14th Wedding Anniversary. She does so much for me and has support me through it all. She is the reason I have endured all our separations.

Erik Tells Mom about his Winning Poetry Entry

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Hi Mom!

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to write about my photo. The inspiration for it all was my wife! My wife, Jane, is my heater on cold winter nights, she is the love of my life, and my muse. I love warm spring days! I love how laying in the sun warms me just like my wife does in the winter. I love being out in the sun, riding my bike, hiking and taking photographs whenever I can. I feel more alive and energetic in the spring, especially after the long dark winters. Jane makes me feel the same way. I smile every time I see her and every time I think about her (I’m smiling right now) just like I do when I think about warm spring days.

The photograph was taken this past summer at Cape May. I was watching and photographing the two swans as they swam together and nuzzled each other for quite a while. Eventually they were swimming with the whole swam family. Before I looked through the photos, I was hoping one of the shots I took of the parents nuzzling would come out great and this one did! It was pure luck that their heads and neck almost made a heart and that the reflection turned out as nicely as it did! I also liked how it looked with all but the orange desaturated more than in full color. It seemed to add to the loving mood of the swans.

The photograph and the poem go together so well! They look even better than I could have imagined! Just seeing it makes me smile. This piece will be a constant reminder of the love I feel for my wife.

Thank you for having this contest and for putting the two together so beautifully. Right now the piece is in our living room, but it will eventually find a permanent home in our bedroom.

Erik

My Warm Spring Day

As I peer into your eyes,
Into the neverending glow of light,
My heart goes thump,
I become lost in your gaze.
In this trance,
I dream of warm spring days.
Red, orange and yellow sunsets
Stretching across the horizon
Setting the world ablaze.
Flowers blooming
Sending their fragrance through the skies.
Birds singing,
Their beautiful songs filling my ears.
Fields of gold, forests of green
This world must be a dream!
You gently squeeze my hand,
Suddenly, I awake!
As I look upon your eyes and smile,
I realize
You are my warm spring days.

New Year; New Beginnings!

Monday, January 4th, 2010

For years I’ve thought of New Years as a fresh piece of white paper and a brand new box of crayons.   I am just idealistic enough to believe in new beginnings.   Cynics would tell us that resolutions are made to be broken, but I think it is important to commit to improvement, and what better time than at the start of a new decade!   At Canvas on Demand, we believe that each of us really can make a difference in the world.   Please join us at the start of this new year in striving to touch the lives of others in positive ways.   If you resolve to make at least one person happy every day,   in ten years you may have made three thousand, six hundred and fifty people happier!

And if one of your resolutions this year is to bring more life and energy to your walls, take a few moments to peruse our website to see the great ideas posted by  some of our customers.   Here is what one customer did with an entire wall.   What a way to show your loved ones how important they are to you in 2010!   Mom

On the Air in Minneapolis with Mom

Friday, September 18th, 2009

During last week’s Canvas Across America tour, I had the pleasure of being a guest on a morning talk show in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.   I spoke with co-hosts Jay Kolls and Patrick Reusse on station KSTP about our Operation Hi Honey project, and I was joined on the program by  Lori Wortham, who lives in that area and was a recent recipient of one of Canvas on Demand’s anniversary canvases.   Click below to listen to the interview…and to enjoy the wonderful surprise that the show’s hosts sprung on us!   Mom

Canvas Across America Journal, September 8th

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I left Estes Park around 5:30am and headed to Denver…just in time for morning rush hour traffic! Had a great day enjoying the downtown mall and having lunch at an outdoor restraurant. Then what great fun it was to join Natalie Tysdale on her afternoon TV talk show, Everyday. But the big highlight was giving away a $1000 Gift Card from Canvas on Demand at the end of the program to the first person who came up to me and shouted, “I love Canvas”! Congratulations Anthony! See a recap of the day below. Mom

Mom Thanks Jim and Ruth Turner

Monday, September 7th, 2009

While I was in Estes Park during my Canvas Across America tour, I met Jim and Ruth Turner, the owners of the Estes Park KOA.   On behalf of Canvas on Demand, I thanked them  for their work with the KOA Care Camps–camps for children with cancer. I presented the Tuckers with two items–a Thanks for Doing Good Kit, which includes a $100 gift certificate, and a lovely 3-panel Great Big Canvas of snow covered mountain pines such as those enjoyed by Colorado visitors in the winter. Jim and Ruth will deliver both gifts to the KOA National Conference in November.

Thanks again, Jim and Ruth, for making a positive change in the world for children who are struggling with cancer.
