The Possibilities are Endless!

Monday, October 24th, 2011

Once these lovely fall days are over, many of us focus on redecorating projects at home before the holidays.  That means there will be lots of reasons to consider a few new art canvases for your home or office.  It seems like the perfect time for an article about some of Canvas on Demand’s options.

Gallery-Wrap:  Our most popular canvas choice for customers who don’t plan to use a frame is called a Gallery Wrap—a canvas image wrapped around a 1.5” wood frame.  It offers a nice clean look.  The portion of the canvas that wraps around the side can be made of the image itself…or it can simply be white or black.

Frame:  Then there is the option of ordering your canvas with a frame.  Our classic, high-quality premium frame creates a timeless look for your canvas photo. All frames are custom made to order. You can choose from four different styles.

Frames

Photo Realistic or Pixel Painting: Another choice our customers enjoy is selecting either a Photo Realistic or Pixel Painting finish.  Photo Realistic give a canvas just like your photo; Pixel Painting creates the look of a traditional oil painting. To create the Pixel Painting effect, we don’t use filters. Instead.  Instead, one of our artists uses a specialized tablet and stylus to create brush strokes by hand to capture the unique details.  You will want to choose this technique when reproducing portrait style photographs where the subjects’ faces are prominent or any time you want a beautiful painterly effect.

Like brush strokes?

Other Options:  Now here are a few artsy options for you:

  • PhotoSplits are a great way to take one image and create a canvas grouping. They’re an excellent design solution for larger spaces.
  • Wall Displays are a great way to tell a story with gallery wrapped canvases.  They are also a good way to save money, since Wall Displays are 20% cheaper than if those same canvases were purchased separately.
  • Collages:  Sometimes you have so many great photos that you just can’t narrow it down to one. Don’t worry, we have found a great option to help you, Collages can be created from as few as 2 photos. Or, if you’re the trigger happy photographer who has hundreds of photos we have something called a Photo Mosaic.  No matter how many pictures you have or who is the lucky recipient, there is the perfect choice for you.

The Perfect Way to Honor Any Special Memory

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

The best thing about a Canvas on Demand gift is that it is perfect for any special occasion—wedding, birthday, new baby, graduation, or any other significant accomplishment.  I friend of mine recently said that she doesn’t even consider any other gift!  After all, what better way to keep a precious memory alive than an heirloom canvas?

Snehal gave this canvas as a wedding gift to her cousin.  I wanted to give them a unique gift and came across Canvas on Demand. My cousin loved the surprise!  The service was excellent. The service reps were incredibly helpful.”

I was especially taken with this testimonial and canvas that we created for Dave and Dorie for their 18th wedding anniversary.  He explained:  “This was a VERY special night for us. Our 18th wedding anniversary in our favorite place on earth–Epcot Center in Disney World, as the park was closing. We had the “day of our lives” in the parks (including parasailing to 650 feet, wonderful food around the world, and fireworks to make the night perfectly complete. We celebrated our love and commitment in the place where that love originally blossomed, Disney World in Orlando, Florida. We really wanted this picture to be as special as the night it was taken. We were both skeptical about the pixel-painting but went ahead as planned. WE WERE BLOWN AWAY at the result–WE LOVE IT!!!! It now hangs in our Great Room and is our pride and joy. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your service is wonderful.”

An Anniversary Memory

Now it would be hard to top the joy of this next canvas that we made of triplets, Cam, Jordan and Keith.  “When I saw the website I wasn’t so sure that the finished product was going to be as good you made it seem. Well in a way, I was right. It was so much better!!! I actually had this same photo enlarged for my husband’s birthday last year and it came out awful. I figured I would give you guys a shot, and I am so glad I did! The canvas came out beautiful!! I almost cried when I saw it. Thank you so much for doing a great job.”

Surely an heirloom-to-be!

Amiee wanted a way to always remember her son’s graduation.  “This photo was taken at my son’s high school graduation. I loved this picture of both my kids, because they’re both smiling and really reflecting the excitement of that evening! I obviously didn’t need to see the hundreds of other people in the back ground, so I loved the Canvas On Demand feature of blurring out the background! I will definitely continue to use Canvas On Demand for these types of photo projects!”

So, do you have a special event on the horizon?  Do you want to tell someone how much you appreciate them this coming Thanksgiving?  Or are you simply in the market for a gift that will become a family heirloom?  The solution is easy.  Simply upload that favorite photo and let us get the job done for you!  Mom

Happy Anniversary!

Friday, August 5th, 2011

We make many, many wonderful canvases of weddings…but we make lots of canvas gifts for customers who are celebrating anniversaries too.

Maria had a great idea for a canvas gift to give to her husband Mark.  She sent us a terrific photo taken on their wedding day and asked us to add some special words to the layout.  “The service was the tops!” she told us.  “I had some questions and your art department answered the phone on the first ring.  Super nice!”  Maria went on to explain that the canvas was a 10th anniversary gift.  Happy Anniversary Maria and Mark!

Words of Love

Another customer, Christine, told us that she was having trouble deciding what to give her husband for their first anniversary.  Then she came across a picture of them exchanging their vows and rings.  She wrote:  ”I thought it would be awesome to have it on canvas. I was right.  He loved it!  The service and quality was fabulous!”  Christine, I really love the frame you selected.

Rings of Love

But what do you think of this wonderful collage done for a 25th Surprise Wedding Anniversary?  The testimonial:  “Not only did the couple love it, but everyone wanted to know about Canvas on Demand!”

Images of Love

We want to thank you all for spreading the Canvas on Demand story and for sharing your testimonials with us.  What lovely gifts for such special occasions.  Do any of you know a couple getting ready to celebrate a special anniversary?  Consider these ideas and then order a gift that will honor their love and commitment to one another.  Mom

Up Close and Personal

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

If I can make one sweeping observation about our customers, it is that they are CREATIVE!

I noticed lately that we’ve been filling orders from a few folks who have a “close up and personal” love for their animals…and they are showing it in a very creative style.  For example, look at this

Keeping her memory alive

canvas of Lisa’s cat, Sophie. I love what she wrote about Sophie.   “I thought this picture of her was really fun. She passed away last year and I think this is the perfect way to let her memory live on.”  Many, many of the canvases we make for our customers are in memory of a loved one, and often a beloved pet.

I believe Bella really understood that she was celebrating her birthday during an outing at the park.  I love the angle of the shot.  She looks very young for 12 years!  Her owner, Susan, says, “I

Happy Birthday!

had a great experience working with Canvas on Demand. Wonderful communication, fast shipping, and great quality!”

And the next canvas isn’t actually Daniella’s pet, but rather it was created from a photo she took in Brazil in the Floresta Amazônica.  “It is of a caged wild pig kept by a still-existing Amazonian tribe.”  In any case,Daniella, this is what I call really up close and personal!  She goes on to say, “Canvas on Demand has done some fantastic work with my photos. Very well done.   I keep coming back to print more!”

Thanks, Daniella…and all our pet lovers!  We enjoy working with all those creative photos you send us.  Keep on snapping!  Mom

REALLY up close and personal!

Heroes and She-roes

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

Our young people look up to us. Let us not let them down. Our young people need us. Saving them will make heroes of us all. Gale Sayers

We all need heroes.  Sometimes they are a famous football player or a popular actress or a super hero…and sometimes they are someone right in our own family.  Marcia told us about her’s…

Here’s the love of my life on his 3rd tour to Iraq. I’m so very proud of all that he does every time he’s away. He’s truly our hero and my one true love.

Christopher snapped a great photo of several Philadelphia Highway Patrolmen who were keeping watch over 4th of July festivities in Philly. “I liked their blue shirts against the beige

background and figured it would make for a great addition to my apartment. Your service was super fast and you have a great awareness of how photos will look on a canvas surface.  The finished piece looks awesome!”

Look at this canvas to the left.  Now that little girl sure knows who her hero is!

But, of course, not all heroes are men.

Maya Angelo says our world has heroes and she-roes!  When you look at the canvas to the right, you can see a little boy who sees a she-ro in his mom, Kirsten.

On the Road with Mom Again. REALLY on the Road!

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

I love traveling to visit many of our Canvas on Demand customers, gathering the stories behind their canvases, and reporting those stories to our readers via this blog. Well, I suppose the simple truth is that I just enjoy all of you very much–our staff and our customers. And OK, I admit it, I LOVE to travel too!   I am posting today to tell you that I’m about to “hit the road” again–but this time in a major way.  A longtime friend from Chicago and I are putting on our small backpacks with only two changes of clothes and taking off on a six-month trek around the world. Really!

We are both women in our mid-sixties and have decided that this is a trip that shouldn’t be put off.  We are calling our adventure “Full Circle.”  While I am away, I will continue posting about your amazing canvases, but I will occasionally update you all on my travels too. When we return in September, Canvas on Demand will create 24 canvases from our best photos and that collection will become a traveling exhibit.  I will inform you of those venues when the time comes.

We leave the States on March 1st.  Before we depart I will share our Full Circle website (which is now under construction), so you can follow us if you like.  As sojourners on this adventure, we will visit more than twenty countries and traverse nearly 30,000 miles.  Yes, if you’re doing the math correctly, that is 5,000 miles more than the actual circumference of planet earth.  And let me emphasize that this will NOT be a vacation.  No fine restaurants, comfy hotels, or suitcases on wheels.  We will travel on the proverbial shoestring. The packs flung over our shoulders will contain only the essentials, and at day’s end, we will be reminded that home is where we unfold our bedrolls.  We are preparing physically and emotionally to have our bodies, our patience, and our perseverance stretched to the limits.  We will eat food we won’t recognize and often sleep like sardines in backpacker bunkhouses alongside fellow-adventurers of every stripe and from every corner of the globe.  We will rely on hand-gestures and maps when language skills fail us, and we will trust our instincts regarding confusing currency that will change with each destination.

I am sure we will be threatened by unforeseen dangers and disheartened by challenges beyond our control.  But we know our lives will be inextricably changed and our visions broadened as we draw into closer relationship with our global brothers and sisters.  We want to witness creation and life beyond what we have yet experienced.  We are going now while we are still physically able and while many countries still welcome us.  A world of mountains and plateaus and oceans and fjords and canyons and deserts and rain forests await us.  We will see an abundance of wildlife from polar bears, puffin, and whales within the Arctic Circle to blue-footed boobies, miniature penguins, and marine iguanas in the Galapagos Islands.  We have arranged rare nights aboard a junk in Indochina while looking forward to a few days of reflection at a mountaintop Buddhist Temple in Japan.  We will travel by many modes, including bamboo rafts and elephants and camels.  And we will straddle the equator with each foot planted in a different hemisphere and point out the Southern Cross on clear star-studded nights.

We both have our cameras ready to snap any surprises that come our way.   After all, that is a lesson I’ve learned from all of you!  Mom

Fire and Ice

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

My last post spoke of the snow and ice and subzero temperatures across the Midwest last week.  Thursday, I leave for the lovely Central American coastal town of Punta Gorda, Belize.  I was thinking that the transition would feel as different as fire and ice! And as I shuffled through our customer showcase, I saw canvases that portrayed those very feelings.

For example, there is this canvas of a house on fire vs. the one below of a house covered with ice and snow.

“My boyfriend and I are both volunteer firefighters, and if you know a firefighter, none of us like getting the same old fire themed blanket, shirt, hat, etc.

I needed a birthday gift for him that would be like nothing else he had. This picture is from the first fire we worked together.  This is the second time I’ve used Canvas on Demand, and both times I have been truly satisfied. Canvas on Demand is quick, affordable, and so easy to use.”

“My photo was a snowy, winter shot of a house belonging to friends who recently moved down south. A group of us wanted to give them something special to remember their former home and friends.

Not being the most techno savvy person in the world, I was a bit reluctant to get involved in a process that involved downloading pictures etc. Your service rep couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful in terms of talking me through the order.”

This canvas of a summer tree pleased the customer who ordered it.

And this canvas below of a winter tree delighted another customer.  I suppose it all depends on whether or not your mood at the time is Fire or Ice!

“This is a maple tree in our front yard that was covered with ice. The picture was taken at night while it was snowing. It also happens to be the very first tree we planted while we were building our house. The service was excellent! The canvas turned out beautiful, and the delivery was extremely fast. Based on this experience, I plan to order 3 more photos for the other three seasons and rotate the photos on the wall.”

Now there’s a customer with a great idea!

For the next couple of days, I will convince myself that I am in the mood for ICE–after all, these canvases prove how beautiful it can be.  But come Thursday morning…bring on the FIRE and the sun and those lovely Belizean beaches!  Mom

Hope

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

This article is meant to bring hope to our readers who live in the Midwest and the Plains states. (That would included me.)  Businesses and stores and schools are closed.  Monster snowfall, ice accumulation, and stranded travelers are making headlines.  And now a wave of treacherous Arctic cold is on the way.  And to make it even worse, that dang groundhog saw his shadow, so the end is a good six weeks off!

If you’re at all like me, about this time of year you find yourself in need of a little HOPE.  I spent the better part of yesterday morning chipping 1½” of ice off the Canvas on Demand Crazy van.  It looked like a massive ice cube when I began, and it looked like a massive ice cube with a windshield when I was finished.

So if you still can’t get the front door open or if you live where the wind chill is expected to reach minus 25, take heart!  Today’s featured canvases are posted to offer hope to the frozen.  Hope that the warm sun will shine again.  Hope that the flowers will burst from out of the soil in the weeks ahead.  Hope that the day is soon coming when the kids will head outdoors to play once more.

So set the snow shovel aside, fix yourself a hot cup of cocoa, curl up on the cozy sofa, and take a long hard look at the canvases below.  March 20th, the first day of spring, is not really so far off.  Hang on!  Mom

MBF

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

I’m writing this article because of a request I received from my, well…from my Grand-doggy, Quincy.   I love animals but since I’m generally on the road, I don’t have any of my own. Right now, I’m preparing for a long trip, so I am staying for a spell at Quincy’s house. (My sister lives there too.)  So I was at my computer trying to decide on today’s topic, and Quincy cozied up to me.  He put his little fuzzy Buchon head next to mine, licked my cheek, and looked into my eyes.  “Ok, Quincy,” I said, “I’ll write an article about canvases of dogs!”

Hats off today to man’s best friend!  (That’s “man” in the more universal context.)

Roger Caras said, “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”  And from the thousands of canvases we create of our customers’ beloved dogs, I know lots of other folks feel that way too.

I hope the canvases below inspire you to get out your camera!

How cute are these!

And this last  one really, really touches my heart and speaks for itself!

Quincy and I wish you all a doggone great day!  Mom

(PS…Cat lovers, stay tuned!)

Love Stories on Canvas

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

One of my favorite pastimes is looking at the canvases that our customers order.  Because I’m planning on giving a canvas away as a Valentine gift, I’ve really been tuned in to orders that seem to say: I love you!

Joanne has ordered several canvases from Canvas on Demand, but this one is my favorite!  It’s of her little bundle of love, Kendall.  She tells us that this canvas hangs on her bedroom wall and causes her to wake up every  morning with a smile. I understand, Joanne.  I haven’t stopped smiling since I first saw it!

Another customer, Christy, asked us to create this canvas of a little girl named Peyton.  Now what a lovely Valentine that young lady is!  I can only image how many folks in her family would love one of those.

Does anything say LOVE better than a wedding? I don’t know if this was actually a Valentine wedding, but the image has love written all over it.  The bride’s father, Don, ordered it and was very pleased: I just want to say that we love that canvas. We appreciate you providing your expertise on size and finish. This is the second canvas we had created from the same wedding set.  And we made sure to let others know about you. Thank you!  Don

If your favorite Valentine has four legs, you’ll love this one belonging to a  customer named Teddi.  This was our beautiful, gentle therapy dog, Skye.  She will be forever missed…but is wonderfully immortalized on our canvas.

Now that’s a love story!

Order a Valentine canvas today for someone you love.  Richard Bach said that true love stories never have endings. At Canvas on Demand, we say that true love stories never have endings when they are created on canvas.  Mom
