Today I am celebrating one of the most amazing vacations of my life. It has lasted 5 months, covered 21 countries, and extended more than 30,000 miles. It was a trip of a lifetime, backpacking around the world! I am writing this post from Quito, Ecuador. Tomorrow I return home. As I was preparing to write a post for the Canvas on Demand website, I saw three canvases that I found quite exciting, because they are images that I to saw during my around the world trek.
The first is an image of one of my favorite countries, Iceland. Daniel captured a great shot of Goðafoss, or Gods Waterfall, an Icelandic water source into which all the ancient Scandinavian god statues were cast when Iceland became a Christian country in 1000 AD. He told us that this image was one of a series of photographs taken and later stitched together to create a panoramic scene. It’s a spectacular and powerful canvas, Daniel. I also appreciate your comments posted on our testimonial site: “Canvas on Demand not only did a superb job of creating this panoramic pictorial with panache, they expertly shipped the long package (52″) all the way to Hawai’i without a scratch. (Looking forward to seeing frames for the “odd” sizes.) Overall amazing job COD Gang!”

Colonia, Uruguay
Now on a much more peaceful and serene note is Victoria’s 10th anniversary photo that we turned to a lovely canvas. It captures the quaintness of Colonia, Uruguay. I was there last month, and this brings back fond memories. Did you also have a cup of mate’ while you were there, Victoria?
Finally, Murni’s canvas of Machu Picchu in Peru is striking. She tells us that it captures the ancient ruins during a morning fog. I saw the same surreal fog when I was there just last week. Beautiful!

Machu Picchu in morning fog!
Well, my long and remarkable vacation is about to come to an end, but perhaps yours is jut beginning. It’s summer time and vacation time…and it’s a beautiful world out there. So start snapping away on your next vacation. You never know which memory will end up hanging of the wall of your home or office. Mom

Our Customer Showcase has several categories like Family, Kids, Nature, Vacation, but the one that draws me most often, is the one titled Vintage. Ok, I admit it; I can be pretty nostalgic and reflective.

Rosa's Typewriter
And I love recalling the past and noting how things have changed. So it’s no wonder that I am delighted at how our customers can put a twist on the theme. Take Rosa for example, who tells us simply: “A personal photograph of our old typewriter. And Canvas on Demand wowed with great quality!” That canvas is wonderful and edgy and retro! I love it, Rosa. Please tell us where you will hang it.
I also think you will enjoy this melancholy one by Kyle. It certainly grabbed my attention. “This photo pays homage to my late grandfather and his favorite cocktail. The day I received the news, I decided to made myself a Manhattan in honor of Grandpa, and while I was sipping on it, I had a vision of this scene. After taking this photograph and having it printed on canvas, I think the Manhattan has become my favorite cocktail too.” What a touching way to honor your grandfather. It made me wonder what I would combine and photograph in memory of the dear ones in my life. Perhaps they aren’t with me anymore…but the canvas would serve as a reminder. Thanks for a great idea, Kyle. He also wrote a testimonial: “Your website is very easy to use and, more importantly, the finished product looks exactly like what I imagined, which is no small feat. I’m very satisfied and have already recommended Canvas on Demand to my friends.” Kyle, I think your grandfather is smiling!

Honoring his grandfather
And I had to share this one with our readers, especially the women. Anthea told us: The photo was shot in 1977 at the Winton Place along Lake Erie at a hair show that my husband, Scott, held for fellow stylists. The hair was cut in front of an audience and photographed at the show. Canvas on Demand did a terrific job and we had the front view of the photo done also. They hang side by side in our hair salon in Beachwood, Ohio: Full-Circle-Studio. What fun! Thanks for sharing this story with us, Anthea. Those are two stimulating pieces that you are using commercially and bringing lots of smiles and memories to your customers at the same time.

A Happy Little Family
The only thing more wonderful than a family is a family reunion! Some of my best family memories stem from them. One side of my family is named Byrd, so we call those gatherings “Birds of a Feather Flock Together”.
I got a great idea for a family shot from a customer named Cristie. “This is our happy little family,” she told us. And do they ever look happy! I love the colors and especially the tie dye!
But then a similar headshot of a family by Sue in black and white proved equally powerful! Amazing what a little creativity can do, isn’t it?

Sue's Reunion Headshot
Sue said: “We’ve been doing a yearly “Head Shot” since the cousins were little kids. It’s so much fun to now have it on a large canvas to display on our wall! Canvas on Demand was wonderful! We couldn’t be happier with the final product and will be recommending them to our friends and family! Thank you so much.”
I was touched by this lovely canvas we made for Adam. “I am blessed to have a living grandmother and had all of the mothers of the family over for Mother’s Day. After dinner, I went into my living room and noticed that there were four generations of women all standing near my sectional. I got them to pose and the result was a memory for a lifetime: my grandmother, mother, sister, and niece happily together in a picture of love. OMG!!! I am now Canvas on Demand’s biggest fan!”

Four Generations
Now look at this next family shot by Denise who said: “We had not had a family photo taken in many years and we decided to do something a bit different. This is in downtown Denver, Colorado. We are all jumping as high as we can! What a great day. This was our favorite shot from our whole session. This is my first time using Canvas on Demand for myself. I have used them for my job many times, and have always loved the way the canvases come out.”

- Something Defferent
Now I am really looking forward to getting my “feathered family” together again. And when I do, I’m unpacking all my tie dye too! Mom

Grandchildren and flowers and summer go together beautifully. And these canvases prove it.

Texas Wildflowers
Judy snapped this one in a field of Texas wildflowers. “It’s my granddaughter. “A friend told me about Canvas on Demand. I loved this picture and had it put on canvas for her mother’s birthday. She loved it. I couldn’t believe the service. Not only were you very friendly but you offered discounts. The delivery time was unbelievable too–5 days from order to receipt. The quality is wonderful.”
A customer named Elenor sent us a photo of her two grandsons. “Loden was 3 ½ and Reece was 1 ½. It was taken in the spring when the flowers were in bloom. It had so much color, and the boys were touching the flowers. The service was a 10!”
Teresa told us: “This is my granddaughter, Landyn Juliet! We took her to this garden, and she had a great time. See the twinkle in her eyes. I loved this photo of her, and thought it would make a good canvas. Ordering was easy, and I was able to send the photo file directly to Canvas On Demand. Once they began work on my order, they determined that a different format would b
e better suited for my picture. They upgraded this work complementary. The canvas arrived in perfect condition and with excellent packaging. I will definitely use your company again.
Grandmothers, are you inspired? Now grab that camera and those precious grandkids and head to the garden. The flowers are in bloom! Mom

Is anyone feeling in one of those reflective moods today? If so, you’ll love this article. Let me start out with this amazing canvas that shows the ingenuity of one of our customers named Jason. He took it in Positano, Italy. Great shot, Jason! I want to try something like

All in a Glass!
that. He wrote us: “I was very pleased with Canvas on Demand. My canvas arrived promptly on time and is professionally done. It looks wonderful on my wall. I will be ordering more from you. Thanks!”
Jim told us that he hung his canvas on the wall and it appears it’s like looking out of a window. “I love it! My experience with Canvas on Demand has been great. I have done a few pieces with

Blue on Blue
them and even when I was not happy with one of the pieces (not their fault) they were on top of it and re-did another for me. Canvas on Demand does great work and knows how to take care of customers.”
Janet asked us to create a canvas from a photo she took in Jasper, Alberta, Canada along Lac Beauvert. Wow! Wouldn’t you just love to have that image hanging where you can see it on a stressful day? “I first discovered Canvas on Demand through Groupon. Since then, I’ve printed at least 10 of my pictures. Each came out beautifully. I prefer to do my own cropping and adjusting through Photoshop Elements, then simply upload and wait for my picture to arrive.”

Whenever my brother, sister, and I get together, we often take out a box of old family photos and three of our most powerful magnifying glasses. What fun it is to look for all the finite detail in our mother’s kitchen or on the Thanksgiving table 40 years ago at our Aunt Theresa’s country home. It makes me realize that when you look at the past, the small things tell much of the story. I think that’s why I enjoy all the canvases we make from vintage photos. So many of the testimonials thank us for pulling out all those fine and often faded details that mean so much.
Aliyah had us create a wonderful canvas of her parents. Her testimonial reminded us of how our expertise and commitment to customer service can make a big difference in the lives of our customers. “My brother and I dug up one of the few wedding photos of my parents. We wanted to give a canvas to them on their 25th anniversary. The photo was old, terribly aged, and of poor quality. This one was really a challenge. Customer service contacted us multiple times regarding the photo and asked what we hoped to accomplish on our modest budget. Everything went smoothly. And all of the representatives I spoke with were extremely kind and considerate. And the canvas was beautiful! It actually brought tears to my parents’ eyes! They were so impressed that you caught every detail, things that were barely visible in the original photograph. Thank you so much!”

Aliyah's Canvas
And then there’s Glenda, who sent us a spectacular 1903 vintage photo of her grandparents. She wanted to share it at the 83rd annual family reunion. She told us it was a hit and generated plenty of discussion about their family history. When I look at the canvas, Glenda, I can certainly see why. It is a wonderful family heirloom! Mom

One of the favorite roles I play in life is that of an older sister. My younger sis finally came along when I was 12, after begging my mom and dad for years. And over the decades, we have grown to be the dearest of friends. And my five grandchildren are all sisters! So it stands to reason that the following canvases caught my attention.
Melissa had this sweet black and white canvas created of Liza and Ruby, “sisters and best
friends!” Melissa put her experience with Canvas on Demand in a few simple words: “So easy, so fast, and oh so beautiful on our walls.” Well, Melissa, when you have such precious little subjects as Liza and Ruby, how could that canvas be anything else but beautiful!
Another customer, Amanda, told us that this is her favorite image from a recent family photo session. “It captures the love my daughter has for her baby brother so well! And Canvas on Demand provided absolutely AMAZINGLY service. Fast shipping and the canvas is gorgeous! Thanks, COD”!
And Aaron puts the joy of the next
canvas in few words: “Big sister; little brother.” She goes on to say that she has ordered many canvas prints for her clients but this is the first one she’s ordered for herself. “I can’t wait to fill up my walls!” Well, Aaron, when you do get those walls all filled up, let us know so we can feature you on our website again. Sometimes I feel like color can get in the way of a great image. I just love the amazing things that happen with tones in a good black and white photo. It can be bold, or it can be soft and gentle. Black and white can evoke some powerful feelings. As examples, I am posting two canvases that we made for customers. The products are terrific…but the stories are even better.
Bev took this photo of her son and her grandbaby, Ashton. She said it was “one of those moments that you catch and are forever glad you did! It was taken just a couple weeks after his birth. My son, Dustin, used to go out of his way to stay away from babies…and just melted with his own child. All fear diminished and now he hardly ever puts him down!” Bev, I can sure see the love in the canvas. Thanks for telling us the story behind it!

A customer named Stephen told us about this awesome black and white. “This is Erika Cooper, a yoga teacher and dear friend here in Bonita Springs. This portrait of her laughing is for her Mom. Erika love it! After talking to your consultant on the phone (excellent customer service by the way), I am happy to report that this canvas brought tears of joy to both the recipients! I ordered two different black and whites of Erika and wrapped them individually. Erika and her mother were instructed that they were to take turns in unwrapping until they reached the canvases. Then they to sit back to back and open their gifts without seeing what the other had got! The mother sat there looking at the image of her daughter, her mouth hanging open and tears filling her eyes! The daughter immediately started tearing up, and clutching her image to her chest, ran out of the room! Thank you so much for helping me create these wonderful gifts, ones I can tell will be cherished for years!”

Oh my goodness, Steven. This story brought tears to my eyes too. Thanks for sharing it…and hopefully for inspiring some of our readers to shoot a few powerful black and white images of their own. Mom

Our young people look up to us. Let us not let them down. Our young people need us. Saving them will make heroes of us all. Gale Sayers

We all need heroes. Sometimes they are a famous football player or a popular actress or a super hero…and sometimes they are someone right in our own family. Marcia told us about her’s…
Here’s the love of my life on his 3rd tour to Iraq. I’m so very proud of all that he does every time he’s away. He’s truly our hero and my one true love.
Christopher snapped a great photo of several Philadelphia Highway Patrolmen who were keeping watch over 4th of July festivities in Philly. “I liked their blue shirts against the beige

background and figured it would make for a great addition to my apartment. Your service was super fast and you have a great awareness of how photos will look on a canvas surface. The finished piece looks awesome!”

Look at this canvas to the left. Now that little girl sure knows who her hero is!
But, of course, not all heroes are men.
Maya Angelo says our world has heroes and she-roes! When you look at the canvas to the right, you can see a little boy who sees a she-ro in his mom, Kirsten.

I’m writing this article because of a request I received from my, well…from my Grand-doggy, Quincy. I love animals but since I’m generally on the road, I don’t have any of my own. Right now, I’m preparing for a long trip, so I am staying for a spell at Quincy’s house. (My sister lives there too.) So I was at my computer trying to decide on today’s topic, and Quincy cozied up to me. He put his little fuzzy Buchon head next to mine, licked my cheek, and looked into my eyes. “Ok, Quincy,” I said, “I’ll write an article about canvases of dogs!”
Hats off today to man’s best friend! (That’s “man” in the more universal context.)
Roger Caras said, “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” And from the thousands of canvases we create of our customers’ beloved dogs, I know lots of other folks feel that way too.
I hope the canvases below inspire you to get out your camera!

How cute are these!
And this last one really, really touches my heart and speaks for itself!
Quincy and I wish you all a doggone great day! Mom
(PS…Cat lovers, stay tuned!)
