Ellen DeGeneres

Tips and Picks from Our Team, Part 2

Sunday, April 21st, 2013

As promised in my last post, here is yet another article from a member of Canvas on Demand’s staff.  Her name is Shannon, and she is sharing two of her favorite canvases and tips for our readers.

This first is an awesome canvas from a photo of Shannon in her spectacular bridal gown.  She told us that “the image was taken in the fields surrounding my wedding venue.  I had it taken so I would have a bridal portrait of myself displayed at my reception just to show a little more detail of the dress. You see, I was so busy talking to people, that I didn’t actually get the chance to be one-on-one with everyone. The canvas gave my guests an opportunity to get a close up look of The Dress.  And of course, I also had it created, so I could display it in my home after the wedding to remind my husband and I of our wedding day.”

Then she gave her tip to our readers:  “Choose a photo you love.  Our canvases are very durable and will be a beautiful addition to your walls. They will last for years and years to come. You will be delighted at how people will take notice of your canvas when they visit your home; that’s why it’s important to choose a higher quality image.  It will look its very best from up close and from far away.”

As amazing as that first canvas is, I think her next one will really make your heart sing!  She explains:  “My family has raised and rescued several animals over the years. My mom has always had a very close connection with all of our pets, so for Mother’s Day, my father, brother, and I put a collage together of all those animals that have been a part of our family. My mother absolutely loved it! It is a great way to remember our pets who have left us and the stories behind their rescues. For example, the first two dogs on the third row are mother and daughter. We adopted the mother when she was pregnant and two short weeks later, we had seven puppies! We kept one and found wonderful homes for the rest.   Pet canvases are great! Pets are a part of your family; so don’t they deserve a spot on your wall too?”

Wow, Shannon, those are stunning canvases.  I think our readers will take your tip to heart.  Choose images you LOVE.  That’s what Shannon does!  Mom

Dance Like No One is Watching

Thursday, April 11th, 2013

These lovely canvases speak for themselves.  The images capture the sheer delight of young people dancing as if no one is watching!   This group of canvases is actually a confluence of arts–dance and photography.   William Stafford said: Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn’t music.

Look at the fabulous colors in this canvas of a little girl named Esther.  The customer tells us in her testimonial that “Canvas On Demand does a great job! I never have to worry about the quality. It’s a good feeling to know my precious work is in trustworthy hands.”

When I first saw this next canvas on our Customer Showcase, it made me want to get up and dance myself.  What a joy and inspiration this child is!  Stacy was able to capture her 13-year-old who was ”at the beach dancing like no one was watching!”  She also had this to say.  “I love Canvas on Demand! I am impressed every time!”  Stacy, you really made our day with both the fabulous photo and the kind words.

And finally, another amazing beach dance.  I am especially fond of the earth tones, the perfect backdrop for a stunning canvas.  The customer who ordered this, Melinda, told us:  “I have used Canvas on Demand 10 times now . . . and every time I have been nothing less than amazed. Quick, personal customer service and amazing products. I have had several made and have  given them for gifts. Everyone loves them.”

These children are certainly examples of the Constanze quote:  “Dancing is like dreaming with your feet!  Mom

Your Little Picasso!

Saturday, April 6th, 2013

There are little Picasso artists in many families.  Usually the drawings are taped to the refrigerator, but in the case of these innovative Canvas on Demand customers…they are hanging proudly on a prominent wall.  What better way to encourage the artistic potential of those children.  Congrats to these parents for thinking creatively!

Leslie asked us to make a canvas of this basset hound drawn by her 8-year-old nephew, Trenton, She thinks he captured the dog perfectly.  What a great drawing, and what a great way to show Trenton that his Aunt Leslie is proud of him.

Meghan took the artwork of her children and turned it into a colorful collage.  It made the perfect Father’s Day gift!  And what dad wouldn’t be pleased with such an amazing present?

kids collage A customer named John took a 1st grader’s art project and turned it to a canvas wall-hanging.  The child’s project was to recreate Andy Warhol’s “Self-Portrait” on construction paper.  John, your 1st grader has a fantastic art teacher!

Vivian told us in her testimony:  “This is my son’s afterschool watercolor creation he made in the 1st grade. I always loved this piece, so I decided to give myself a gift from him on Mother’s Day.”  I think that sometimes the best thing a mom can do for her children is to take care of herself.  And giving yourself such a delightful gift, Vivian, was a great way to honor your son…and YOU!

So this idea of putting childrens’ original art on canvas seems to be very popular.  More parents and teachers should consider it.  And John, I would love to write a story about your first grader’s art teacher if you would be kind enough to send me their contact information.  Mom

Definitely Digital!

Saturday, March 30th, 2013

Digital artwork, computerized images, have become quite popular with some of our customers, and we are seeing more and more of them turned to canvases.  I thought it would be fun to share some of these in this post.

The first three were created by Peter. He simply told us that “these are pieces of original art created on a computer with paint and graphic programs.”  Well, Peter, all I can say is FABULOUS COLORS! Thanks so much for sharing these on our Customer Showcase.  Hopefully, others will be inspired.

Then another customer, Caryn, created this last one.  “It is an original piece of art that I created digitally on my computer. It was a fun experience to create and turn to canvas.”  Caryn, I would be interested in knowing where you will hang this terrific piece.   digital Caryn

I imagine these will encourage some of our readers to give digital art a try.   Mom

April Fool’s Day is Playing Tricks Again

Sunday, March 24th, 2013

Spring finally arrived in Indiana last week.  I feel as though I waited an eternity for it.  My heart has been longing for blue skies and butterflies and fields of tulips!  In fact, here are a couple of lovely images that reflect my hearts anticipation for upcoming April, one of my favorite months following a long cold winter.  The first is Beth’s photo of a beautiful field of Lupine in the San Juan Mountains of South West Colorado.  The second is a canvas we made for Ameer.  He says:  “It was an early spring evening in the US Botanic Garden in front of the US Capitol. Lying down on the ground, I was able to get the sun illuminating the tulips without making it a dark silhouette. This is one of my favorite shots.  It takes me back there in a flash, every time I see it!”  Yes, spring sweet spring!

But ah…Beth and Ameer, though these were the very scenes I expected this first week of spring…it seems that I was fooled!  (April Fool’s Day is less than a week away!)  You see, just to prove how unpredictable Indiana weather can be, I am experiencing a strong and stubborn blizzard-like blast of Arctic cold and snow!  Kristi’s photo of her summer home in winter is much like the view from my forest cabin here in Southwestern Indiana.  Or the image of the snow trees of Alaska that Victoria sent us.  Both are spectacular winter scenes, but much too chilling for me.  I was hoping the month of March would truly come in like a tiger and go out like a lamb, but so much for that.  Maybe the crocuses will begin blooming on April 1st.   Now that would turn the tables on old man winter, wouldn’t it!

I always like to joke that whether the weather be good, or whether the weather be not, we’ll weather the weather, whatever the weather…whether we like it or not!  Mom

Ryan–Canvas on Demand’s Irish Vagabond!

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

There are two great things about Canvas on Demand:  Our customers and our staff.  In nearly all my posts, you hear about our amazing, creative, and inspiring customers. Today, I want to talk a bit about our staff.  They are dedicated, hardworking, loyal, and caring!  I say this in all sincerity.  I plan to give you a chance to meet a few of them in the next few weeks.

In this post, I want to introduce you to Ryan.  She has been the Customer Service Manager at Canvas On Demand for 5 ½ years.  She told me why she enjoys working here.  “I love working with an amazing customer service team that genuinely cares about our customers. We get to help people put memories onto canvas, and we turn their personal art into something that they can show off.  That is pretty amazing and empowering in my book!”

It seemed appropriate to put the spotlight on Ryan during mid-March, because recently she and her husband, Chris, took a 2-week trip to Ireland!  I asked her about her trip, and she said, “We went to Ireland in the fall of 2012 to celebrate my birthday and our wedding anniversary.   This trip has been a dream for as long as I can remember.  I’m at least a quarter Irish, and I have always felt a strong connection with the island and its culture.”

Ryan is an awesome photographer as you can see by the stunning canvases below.

The first one is of Giant’s Causeway at Carrick-a-rede Bridge in northern Ireland.  She told me that it was so windy that waterfalls were actually blowing upwards! ireland_Nireland

Regarding the next magnificent canvas, Ryan explains:  “Kilclooney Dolman is in county Donegal in northwest Ireland.  It is a portal tomb circa, 3500BC.”

Don’t you love this next canvas? I wish I could just put a blanket down in that pasture and spend the afternoon in the sun with a glass of wine and some Irish cheese!  Well…I might have to share some of it with the sheep!

The tour company that Ryan and her hubby used was Vagabond Tours.  Doesn’t this look like a fun bunch?  That canvas makes me want to travel with them.  Check them out at http://vagabondtoursofireland.ie/

Thanks, Ryan, for sharing your fabulous photography…and thanks for all the hard work you do for our customer at Canvas on Demand!  Mom

Soft, Sweet, and Newborn

Friday, March 1st, 2013

There is nothing that says “softness” like a newborn baby!  These canvases speak for themselves.  I think you’ll understand after appreciating them, how much fun my job here at Canvas on Demand can be!

One of our customers, Michelle, asked us to create this precious canvas of her first granddaughter who arrived after four grandsons!  It’s no wonder that Michelle wanted this feminine photo turned into an heirloom piece of art.  She told us:  “My first granddaughter!  She won’t be spoiled one bit! Right!”

Another customer, Rachel, in her online testimonial, said, “I was snapping these for my little girl’s first birthday party invitations.”  And of course, a baby, a camera, and a little sweetness always equals a great canvas!

Lauren explained:  “I am a portrait photographer, and this photo was taken in my studio. This baby was 2 weeks old and such a good baby to photograph.”  Lauren, we are sure your clients were very satisfied with this final product!

Another photographer, out of Georgia, really captured softness in her image!  Her name is Kathleen, and her photo was so unique with that brown prop.  “This sweet love child stole my heart during our photo shot!”  She went on to say, “Her Mamma’s gonna squeal when she gets her Canvas! It is just BEAUTIFUL!”

For a canvas that will make you squeal, simply grab your camera and a newborn.  End of lesson.  Mom

Too Precious for Words

Sunday, February 24th, 2013

To quote Wikipedia:

The expression “Use a picture. It’s worth a thousand words.” appeared in a 1911 newspaper article quoting newspaper editor Arthur Brisbane discussing journalism and publicity.  A similar phrase, “One Look Is Worth A Thousand Words”, appears in a 1913 newspaper advertisement for the Piqua Auto Supply House of Piqua, Ohio.

Okay, I know; I’m a writer.  There needs to be words in this blog.  But honestly!  I can hardly find words to describe some of the precious, precious baby canvases we make for customers.  So, please cut me a little slack on this post.  After all, a picture—well, in this case, a canvas—is worth a thousand words!

How can anyone explain the power in this canvas below?  Really! We created it for a customer named Alicia.  She says, “This is a picture of my husband and our 2-week-old son.  My heart melts every time I see it!”  My heart too, Alicia.  It is one of my all time favorites!

Jennifer took this picture of a friend’s baby.  “It is one of my absolute favorites!” she told us.  And we all understand why!

Erica sent us another indescribable image.   In her testimonial, she wrote.  “I absolutely LOVE this 16 x 24 canvas wrap! I gave it to a family member that just had a baby, and they are in AWE of how good it looks. Thanks so much for everything!!!”  When customers are so happy, Erica, it brings us great joy.

And finally, Rita was blown away by her canvas below.

I’ve been told that I am a woman of many words…but sometimes, those words are just very  hard to find.  Mom
