Ryan–Canvas on Demand’s Irish Vagabond!

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

There are two great things about Canvas on Demand:  Our customers and our staff.  In nearly all my posts, you hear about our amazing, creative, and inspiring customers. Today, I want to talk a bit about our staff.  They are dedicated, hardworking, loyal, and caring!  I say this in all sincerity.  I plan to give you a chance to meet a few of them in the next few weeks.

In this post, I want to introduce you to Ryan.  She has been the Customer Service Manager at Canvas On Demand for 5 ½ years.  She told me why she enjoys working here.  “I love working with an amazing customer service team that genuinely cares about our customers. We get to help people put memories onto canvas, and we turn their personal art into something that they can show off.  That is pretty amazing and empowering in my book!”

It seemed appropriate to put the spotlight on Ryan during mid-March, because recently she and her husband, Chris, took a 2-week trip to Ireland!  I asked her about her trip, and she said, “We went to Ireland in the fall of 2012 to celebrate my birthday and our wedding anniversary.   This trip has been a dream for as long as I can remember.  I’m at least a quarter Irish, and I have always felt a strong connection with the island and its culture.”

Ryan is an awesome photographer as you can see by the stunning canvases below.

The first one is of Giant’s Causeway at Carrick-a-rede Bridge in northern Ireland.  She told me that it was so windy that waterfalls were actually blowing upwards! ireland_Nireland

Regarding the next magnificent canvas, Ryan explains:  “Kilclooney Dolman is in county Donegal in northwest Ireland.  It is a portal tomb circa, 3500BC.”

Don’t you love this next canvas? I wish I could just put a blanket down in that pasture and spend the afternoon in the sun with a glass of wine and some Irish cheese!  Well…I might have to share some of it with the sheep!

The tour company that Ryan and her hubby used was Vagabond Tours.  Doesn’t this look like a fun bunch?  That canvas makes me want to travel with them.  Check them out at http://vagabondtoursofireland.ie/

Thanks, Ryan, for sharing your fabulous photography…and thanks for all the hard work you do for our customer at Canvas on Demand!  Mom

Soft, Sweet, and Newborn

Friday, March 1st, 2013

There is nothing that says “softness” like a newborn baby!  These canvases speak for themselves.  I think you’ll understand after appreciating them, how much fun my job here at Canvas on Demand can be!

One of our customers, Michelle, asked us to create this precious canvas of her first granddaughter who arrived after four grandsons!  It’s no wonder that Michelle wanted this feminine photo turned into an heirloom piece of art.  She told us:  “My first granddaughter!  She won’t be spoiled one bit! Right!”

Another customer, Rachel, in her online testimonial, said, “I was snapping these for my little girl’s first birthday party invitations.”  And of course, a baby, a camera, and a little sweetness always equals a great canvas!

Lauren explained:  “I am a portrait photographer, and this photo was taken in my studio. This baby was 2 weeks old and such a good baby to photograph.”  Lauren, we are sure your clients were very satisfied with this final product!

Another photographer, out of Georgia, really captured softness in her image!  Her name is Kathleen, and her photo was so unique with that brown prop.  “This sweet love child stole my heart during our photo shot!”  She went on to say, “Her Mamma’s gonna squeal when she gets her Canvas! It is just BEAUTIFUL!”

For a canvas that will make you squeal, simply grab your camera and a newborn.  End of lesson.  Mom

Too Precious for Words

Sunday, February 24th, 2013

To quote Wikipedia:

The expression “Use a picture. It’s worth a thousand words.” appeared in a 1911 newspaper article quoting newspaper editor Arthur Brisbane discussing journalism and publicity.  A similar phrase, “One Look Is Worth A Thousand Words”, appears in a 1913 newspaper advertisement for the Piqua Auto Supply House of Piqua, Ohio.

Okay, I know; I’m a writer.  There needs to be words in this blog.  But honestly!  I can hardly find words to describe some of the precious, precious baby canvases we make for customers.  So, please cut me a little slack on this post.  After all, a picture—well, in this case, a canvas—is worth a thousand words!

How can anyone explain the power in this canvas below?  Really! We created it for a customer named Alicia.  She says, “This is a picture of my husband and our 2-week-old son.  My heart melts every time I see it!”  My heart too, Alicia.  It is one of my all time favorites!

Jennifer took this picture of a friend’s baby.  “It is one of my absolute favorites!” she told us.  And we all understand why!

Erica sent us another indescribable image.   In her testimonial, she wrote.  “I absolutely LOVE this 16 x 24 canvas wrap! I gave it to a family member that just had a baby, and they are in AWE of how good it looks. Thanks so much for everything!!!”  When customers are so happy, Erica, it brings us great joy.

And finally, Rita was blown away by her canvas below.

I’ve been told that I am a woman of many words…but sometimes, those words are just very  hard to find.  Mom

Be My Valentine

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Tomorrow is the Feast of St. Valentine, better known as Valentine’s Day.  It is marked by cards, flowers, gifts, candy, candlelight dinners…and yes, canvases!  Our team at Canvas on Demand was very busy the last month getting those special Valentine canvases made.  What a wonderful and personal gift many will receive tomorrow.  I picked a few canvases that commemorate LOVE—from traditional images, to brotherly/sisterly affection to symbols of love to proverbial puppy love.

Ragina’s photo turned out marvelously.

Aaryn, who often orders canvases for her customers, finally placed an order for herself, and how precious it is.

I simply loved the simplicity of these rings, forever a symbol of love!

But my final canvas about love is one we made for Jane.  She told us:  We lost our two pets this last year and I wanted a big photo to remember them by. Our house was broken into and computers were taken–and so were pictures from the last 3 years (my fault for not backing them up). So this photo was the only decent one that I had with both the dogs in it (ages 13 and 17 when they died). We just love it.  Canvas on Demand worked with me and we had excellent communication–both by phone and emails. Because the pixel count of my photo was not what was needed for a clear picture, they made it smaller and it is perfect. I would not hesitate recommending this wonderful company to anyone.  We are so pleased!

Tomorrow, go ask someone special to be your valentine!  Mom

Because Punxsutawney Phil Told Me!

Sunday, February 3rd, 2013

Is there anyone out there who is ready for SPRING?  January in my neck of the woods brought snow and ice and sleet and rain and a full-blown blizzard the day after Christmas.  Ugh!

But February on the other hand brought the promise of an early spring.  Yes! In Panxsutawney, Pennsylvania, a groundhog named Phil came out of his hole and was NOT frightened by his shadow, promising that warmth is just around the corner.  Oh, okay, it may be legend or folklore…but to a Midwesterner suffering from a freezing case of cabin fever, it brought hope.

And now I’m dreaming for the first hints of spring—a little daffodil popping up from the thawing earth in my forest, a robin grabbing a worm, forsythia running her golden fingers through the valleys.  So I guess it’s no wonder that this morning as I visited some canvas testimonials…I found glimpses of spring.

Victor’s image of his family in Central Park caused me to sigh.  So did canvases we created of Nancy’s Cat in the Grass canvas, Jenna’s lovely cherry blossoms, and Franciska’s beautiful wedding shot.  All are filled with anticipation of spring.  These reminders will help me weather the hopefully short time remaining.

Tamara’s photo of her daughter in a field of flowers is an inspiration!  Tolstoy said that ““Spring is the time of plans and projects.”   I think I’ll spend my afternoon planning my flower garden!

Love is in the Air…BUT Think Ahead!

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

NOW is actually the time to think Valentine’s Day, which is only 3 weeks away. If you’re looking for a gift that is personal, intimate, and captures some very special moment, a canvas from Canvas on Demand will be the perfect idea. The steps are easy: select the photo, upload it, and then wait for it to arrive in the mail. Easy, fast, and a gift that will be cherished for years! I selected a few canvases to illustrate that love comes in all ages, all sizes, and all occasions.

Catherine asked us to create several loving art canvas of her two children. She said, “It was simple and gave me lots of options. Three of them arrived yesterday and brought me to tears. They are stunning.”

This couple is walking off into their future in Darlene’s wedding photo. “This is one of our most favorites. Everyone always comments on it and says how much they love it. We didn’t pose for it; we were just walking back from the gardens and the photographer snapped this picture. The service was very quick!”

And this last one which Jeanne ordered really touched my heart. They were celebrating 60 years of marriage!  Her story was delightful: “This photo was taken to commemorate 60 years of marriage. Our primary aim was to have a photo for the anniversary section of the newspaper. We thought the photo was good enough to have quality copies made for our two fine daughters. I am not physically able to shop…. so I decided to take a chance on a company I knew nothing about. Scary! Personal emails from your customer service department were reassuring. I got good suggestions for the frame, and I asked Chris, our customer rep, to treat my order as if I were his favorite grandmother. And did I ever get wonderful, fast service!  The 8×10 canvases in walnut frames are beautiful…and I am most satisfied with all the aspects of this shopping trip.”

So in a short time, you will be able to demonstrate your love on Valentine’s Day…but it may take a little advanced planning. Don’t put it off. After all, your loved one deserves the best! Mom

Birds of a Feather

Saturday, January 19th, 2013

I stop on bird photos.  It’s just that simple.  My maiden name was Byrd, so I endured years of bird slurs from my classmates during grade school.  And although that was downer, there were good memories about that name too.  When my days in class were boring, I used to imagine  that I could simply become a bird and fly right out the window!

How about this canvas we created for Pam.  “This is my Black Palm Cockatoo, Kiya, who is 1.5 years old. I had her beak fully shaded black like it will be when she becomes an adult bird.  (When they are young, their beak is white.)  She is a very sweet bird.  She talks, sings, and dances!  Canvas on Demand did her canvas to perfection.  I’m so satisfied. It is a beautiful piece of art and the service was very professional and very fast. I’m so thrilled. I recommend Canvas on Demand HIGHLY.  I am already working on my next photo with them.”

Laetitia asked us to make this canvas of her lovely babies: Ibid, Teflon, Juju, Patrick, Mancala, and Petzi.  She explains:  “I am an employee of Canvas on Demand, so I’m kind of biased! The canvas really makes the bright colors pop!  I love working here and seeing all the great pet photos!”  My sentiments too, Laetitia!  I feel so privileged to see these amazing images as they pass through the process to become customer canvases.

Ruth painted this wonderful art piece…and then had us make a canvas.  She calls it Cock-a-Doodle Dude. “The painting was inspired by hundreds of Red Jungle Fowl I saw roaming free on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. The breed is the ancestor of today’s common domestic chicken. He is doing what Roosters do … he is crowing. When growing up, I had a rooster like this.  He was my pet.”

Well there’s the theme for today—Birds of a Feather!  And I didn’t get even one little bit bored, so there will be NO need to fly out the window today!  Mom

Granddaddies

Wednesday, January 9th, 2013

I’m always looking at connections or similarities between the many canvases we create for our customers.  Occasionally, I laugh at myself regarding the relationships I see.  This morning was no exception.  The next three canvases may cause you to smile too.  Three customers; three canvases; one theme—granddaddies.  By the way, the final one is an image of my own father, smoking a cigar and jumping on a pogo stick!

I will end with one of my favorite quotes about grandfathers.  It is by Julian Clary.  Just because someone’s dead doesn’t mean it’s over.  My grandfather died more than 25 years ago, but I still think of him alot and smell his smell.  Mom
