Just Days Left for Mothers Day Orders!

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Mother’s Day is May 12th.  Don’t forget this wonderful opportunity to thank Mom for all she’s done for you. Don’t let the time get away!  There is less than a week to place your order in time for her to receive it for her special day.

Let me tell you about three customers who learned firsthand how a Mothers Day canvas can make mom’s heart sing!

Rachael wrote a testimonial on our Customer Showcase. ” My mom took this photo of me and my brother and our dog…and she got it for Mother’s Day!”

Angela told us this story:  “I thought it would be a great gift to give my mom a unique photo that would last forever! I come from a family of three girls, twins and an older sister. Recently, my sister had a baby girl, adding a forth.  My mother LOVED the canvas with all of her girls!”

Simone’s story proves that canvases are ageless!  “My mom (center) saw a photo with three generations of women in a magazine and wanted to re-enact it with her daughter and granddaughter,” Simone wrote on our website.  “So, I took this photo of my sister (top), mother (middle) and niece (bottom). My mom quite literally wept with joy and gratitude when she saw the photo.”

Ok, ok, if you ARE a procrastinator, watch for our May 6th LAST DAY TO ORDER MOTHERS DAY SPECIAL.  But why not play it safe and order today.  Right now.  Go ahead.  Just do it.  After all, it’s for mom.

Famous children’s author and educator, Kate Douglas Wiggin, once said: Most of all the other beautiful things in life come by twos and threes, by dozens and hundreds. Plenty of roses, stars, sunsets, rainbows, brothers, sisters, aunts and cousins…but only one mother in the whole world.

Now, don’t forget her.  Mom

Picks and Tips from Our Team

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

We believe that our staff is the best.  Each member of our team has done their part to make Canvas on Demand the leader in our industry.  Everyone who makes up our management, customer service, art, and production departments are trained and dedicated professionals.  In short, they know canvases, and they know photography.  That’s why we’ve asked them to pick one of their own favorite canvases, to tell us the story behind their photo, and to give a tip that our readers can use.

So this post begins a short series called Picks and Tips from the experts—the staff at Canvas on Demand.

Today we feature a stunning canvas by Gavin.  He took this particular photo on Christmas Day 2011.  When he shot it, he was stading on Ehukai Beach on the North Shore of Oahu close to the world famous Banzai Pipeline.

Gavin, 1

Gavin shares this piece of advice with readers:  “Make your photo unique. Chances are, any photo-to-canvas that you hang on your wall will have an interesting story behind it. When people come over to your house and ask about your canvas, be prepared to talk about it. With this photo, the surf wasn’t that big.  We actually have more impressive photos from Pipeline and Waimea.  However, if you look closely, you’ll see that the surfer is wearing a red Santa Clause hat. This surfer caught my attention, because he was obviously in the Christmas spirit, and while most people were getting up that morning to open presents — he obviously was very excited to get his favorite present … North Shore December swells.  This canvas makes for a fun conversation piece and is part of my lake house rec-room that has surf photos I have taken from all around the world.  Each one has an interesting story behind it.”

Gavin included a close up of the surfer below, so that the hat is easier to see!

And finally, he included a photo of some of the canvases hanging on the wall of his rec-room.  Thanks so much, Gavin, for the wonderful story, the helpful tip, and the amazing canvas!

In the next post, you will get two picks and two tips from another member of the Canvas on Demand team named Shannon.  Stay tuned!  Mom

Soft, Sweet, and Newborn

Friday, March 1st, 2013

There is nothing that says “softness” like a newborn baby!  These canvases speak for themselves.  I think you’ll understand after appreciating them, how much fun my job here at Canvas on Demand can be!

One of our customers, Michelle, asked us to create this precious canvas of her first granddaughter who arrived after four grandsons!  It’s no wonder that Michelle wanted this feminine photo turned into an heirloom piece of art.  She told us:  “My first granddaughter!  She won’t be spoiled one bit! Right!”

Another customer, Rachel, in her online testimonial, said, “I was snapping these for my little girl’s first birthday party invitations.”  And of course, a baby, a camera, and a little sweetness always equals a great canvas!

Lauren explained:  “I am a portrait photographer, and this photo was taken in my studio. This baby was 2 weeks old and such a good baby to photograph.”  Lauren, we are sure your clients were very satisfied with this final product!

Another photographer, out of Georgia, really captured softness in her image!  Her name is Kathleen, and her photo was so unique with that brown prop.  “This sweet love child stole my heart during our photo shot!”  She went on to say, “Her Mamma’s gonna squeal when she gets her Canvas! It is just BEAUTIFUL!”

For a canvas that will make you squeal, simply grab your camera and a newborn.  End of lesson.  Mom

Vintage!

Sunday, November 11th, 2012

I can’t get enough of vintage canvases.  I sometimes just relax with a cup of java and peruse Canvas on Demand’s vintage showcase.  I am always surprised at what I see there.  Of course, the majority truly are retro…but occasionally one of our customers sends us a current shot that simply has a vintage flavor.  That was the case with Cody’s chuck wagon canvas.  He told us, “this classic-style image was actually taken in 2011 at a Chuck wagon cook-off in Marble Falls, Texas. The wagon is old Studebaker.  I absolutely love my new canvas and couldn’t be happier!”

Collette’s canvas of an old typewriter sets my memory soaring back in time.  She told us that she took the photo with her cell phone and simply added the fonts and other accents.  “I can’t wait to hang it in my house!  I have used Canvas on Demand for a lot of canvas projects, and they are always top notch!”  Thanks, Collette for such a nice compliment.  I will look forward to seeing more of your amazing and creative images in the future.

Kelly knew as soon as she saw this old gold mining dredge in Dawson City Yukon that she wanted a canvas of it hanging on her wall at home. “They are amazingly huge and spectacular!  And of course, Canvas on Demand is always fast, reasonably priced, and very easy to use.”

I saved this one for last!  Deborah asked us to make a canvas of “Aunt Mim during her radio days”  Now that canvas will put a smile on lots of faces today!

I never cease to be amazed at the way so many of our customers have such a creative eye and keen imagination.  I have learned from them to expect the unexpected!  Mom

Some Red, White, and Blue Inspiration

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Are you registered to vote?  Debates, campaigns, and political ads remind us that we will soon be able to exercise our right which  Samuel Adams referred to as “one of the most solemn trusts in human society…”  How blessed we are to live in a free country!  As I was looking at some recent canvases, I found myself searching for a little red, white and blue to encourage our readers to get to the polls.

I was touched by Gordon’s testimonial.  He explained his canvas and his love for his wife, Christin. “I had a fellow airman take this photo to surprise my wife.   I am always thinking about her, and hate being away from her and my family. Her strength helps make my important job easier while I am away from home.”

Now here’s a little more red, white and blue where you might not expect it—in a classic car.  Bill told us that this canvas is of an oil painting of a friend’s 1958 Oldsmobile. It is entitled, OLD. “Notice only the letters OLD in the name Oldsmobile appear on the trunk of the car. This has been a very positive experience working with Canvas on Demand. The painting was reproduced exactly as I wanted.  The quality of printing and framing was excellent, and I couldn’t be happier! As an artist, you can expect me to be a regular customer, as I have many paintings that I want to re-create on canvas prints. Thanks…Bill”

Customer Aaryn sent us a sweet photo of a brother and sister in red, white and blue.  She told us that she has ordered many canvases for my clients, but this is the first one I have ordered for myself. I can’t wait to fill up my walls!”

I want to end with a wonderfully patriotic canvas that we created for Kristen who explained that “this is a little boy who’s dad was about to deploy. He is in his junior flight suit just like his dad’s.”

So there you are–a little red, white and blue to inspire you!  Let’s keep America strong by exercising our right to vote on November 6.

From the heART!

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012

I am not an artist, but I am an art lover.  Occasionally, we are asked to make canvases from art works that a customer has made.  And I sometimes find myself stopped in my tracks.  That happened today.

Take for example this canvas of an oil painting that Bill created of his friend’s 1958 Oldsmobile.  He pointed out, “Notice only the letters OLD in the name Oldsmobile appear on the trunk of the car. Working with you folks  has been a very positive experience. The paintings were reproduced exactly as I wanted, the quality of printing and framing was excellent, and I couldn’t be happier! As an artist, you can expect me to be a regular customer, as I have many paintings that I want to re-create on canvas. Thanks.”

Then another customer named Robert sent us this next one. “The artwork that Canvas on Demand printed for me is a rehashed version of the old 1970s peace sign. The organization ‘Pass The Positive’ uses it as their logo – and this was a special holiday gift for the company’s founder.”

Now you might not often think of this next kind of art—make up art!  Rudy told us in his testimonial:  “Wow! Canvas o Demand was easy to use and offered all the options I needed! This photo is an example of my work as a makeup artist. It turned out AMAZINGLY perfect. I had a completely different interpretation of what the finished product would look like and thought my expectations were high, but the finished product super-ceded my expectations.”  That is always our goal, Rudy.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Finally, Dayna asked us to turn a piece of her art into a canvas wall hanging.  “This is a reprint from my Fearless Faces series — No. 4.  I sold the original, so it was wonderful to have such a lovely reproduction for myself! It was absolutely flawless service. In fact, when COD received my order, they sent me an e-mail letting me know that my art would work better if the canvas was two inches taller and made the change at no additional cost to me! Was I ever impressed!”

How wonderful, Dayna, that you had this canvas created so that you never have to completely let go of your amazing creation!  So to all of you artists out there…there can only be one original, but there can be many keepsake canvases!  Mom

The Dog Days of Summer!

Saturday, July 14th, 2012

In my home state of Indiana last week, the temperatures peaked at 105!  As a child, I often heard those sorts of days referred to as the dog days of summer.  Webster defines “dog days” as that period between early July and early September when the hot sultry weather of summer usually occurs in the northern hemisphere, periods of stagnation or inactivity.  The point is that it has been record-breaking hot across much of America lately, and that led me to title this post, The Dog Days of Summer.

A customer named Tracy asked us to make a photo of this amazing image, telling us…”This was a photo of our pet, Maggie, a lab, and my son’s dog, Boo Boo, looking out at the ocean. My son was a fisherman, and they always looked for his return, whether it be by land, car, or boat! They proved that dog really is man’s best friend! Thanks, Canvas on Demand, for making a memory so special!  I had researched the transfer of photos to canvas, and came upon your site quite often. But I always put it off! I am excited that I finally purchased, and so very glad I did! I am so happy with your service and commitment to quality!”  Well, Tracy, when it’s a hot summer day, what better way to cool off than gazing at the sea?  That photo is absolutely precious!

Angela, another customer and dog lover, sent us this sweet picture of Roxy, a dog after my own heart.  If it gets too hot, my MO, like Roxy’s, is to find a comfy place and just relax.   Angela told us:  Canvas on Demand was wonderful! The process was easy and very user friendly. The prices are great, and I can’t wait to place my next order!

Now…for all you readers who love dogs, you’ll love this next story that Carol sent us about her dog.  “He is our best beloved rescue.  We were his fifth home. And we found out why when we left him alone for a couple hours, and he totally destroyed it. Doggie day care saved our house, and he gave us two wonderful short years. Here is a picture of him at my parent’s cabin at Nancy Lake, Alaska, enjoying the great outdoors. We received the Canvas much faster than expected. So glad we went with the pixel painting upgrade. The results are fantastic …it looks like he could step right off the canvas! Thanks for giving us back our beloved rescue.”

Now if you are suffering from heat today, this next canvas of Doug’s dog, Kingston, will surely cool you off!  Doug wrote in his testimonial:  “Dog owners are always proud to tell you their dog can retrieve under water. It was great to finally prove it in a photo.  Here is Kingston last summer. Kingston and a chocolate Lab are featured on the walls of the latest downtown Bozeman eatery.  It is called Sloppy Dawgs on Main Street. Check them out at: http://www.sloppydawgsrestaurant.com/Sloppy_Dawgs_Restaurant_bozeman_MT.html.  Canvas On Demand was even better than I expected and their site so easy to use.”

Thanks to these customers for sharing the great “stories behind the canvases”!  It’s cooled off a bit here in Indiana, but it’s still the Dog Days! But I could just relax here in the air-conditioning all day and read these wonderful doggie tales.  Mom

Shadows and Reflections

Monday, May 28th, 2012

Reflections dominate today’s post.  Well, reflections and shadows, which is sort of a reflection, I think.

Heather asked for a canvas using a shadowy image of her fiancé’s silhouette as he rode his horse in the desert.  “He has a cowboy hat on and due to him taking his own pic, his head is tiny and his body LARGE! It’s a cool pic and it’s even better on canvas this by Canvas on Demand!  I LOVE IT; LOVE IT; LOVE IT!!  Great service.  Canvas on Demand does the best job by far!”  Yes, Heather, it is, indeed, a very COOL canvas!  Thanks for the kind words.

Who would not be fascinated by this next photo sent to us by Ryan?  He simply told us:  “Sitting watching the Baltimore Orioles playing the New York Yankees on a nice sunny afternoon.”  The black and white background with the colored glasses is dynamite!

Berkley is the manager for the local Charleston, SC band, CROWFIELD.  In a testimonial, we learned:  We just released our new album in June 2011m and I wanted to document the memories from our release show. I decided upon one black & white photo I took from the show. The canvas really captured my photo and made it look even better than the original. I was ecstatic when I opened it and immediately hung it on my wall. The band loved it! It’s a great way to furnish a home with cherished memories and a neat way to express the things you love. Thank You!”  What a great way to make that event special.  If our readers want to learn more about this band, they can just visit their website at www.crowfieldmusic.com.

Berkley went on to say, “I was extremely impressed with your company. Everything ran smoothly. My original photo was not the proper size for the canvas I ordered, but Canvas on Demand reformatted it for me for no extra charge and notified me of the change. The customer service was spectacular, and the end product was even better than I expected. I was very pleased with the way things turned out and will definitely be recommending your company to others.  Thank you for the wonderful customer service and a treasured product!”  Wow, Berkley, you made our day!

Gary picked an image that resonated with me because I am a cloud watcher!  He explained that “while looking through some old slides, I found a photo of my sister-in-law’s first rocking horse. I combined that photo with a recent one of her competing in a Cowboy Mounted Shooting match. I added an inspirational message: ‘I am not afraid… I was born to do this,’ by Joan of Arc.”

I’ve said it so many, many times before…our customers are some of the most creative people!  Gary’s testimonial ended with these words:  Your service is always great. I have tried others but Canvas on Demand has the best quality canvas and stretcher construction. The beehive hangers are fantastic. Shipping container is top rate.”

This canvas is stunning, Gary!  Thanks to all our featured customers.  Great job capturing some amazing images. We are so happy to be able to create what you love.   Mom

Winter Fun

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

It’s January.  While many take off to warm sunny beaches, the more adventurous might consider vacationing in a cold climate.  Some of my favorite vacation memories have been winter trips—dog sledding near the boundary waters in Minnesota a few years back and visiting Patagonia and China during the cold seasons just this past year.

So I suppose it’s no surprise that I linger a little longer on the winter vacation canvases we create for customers like Laura.  She took this photo on her vacation to Alaska’s Hubbard Glacier.  “The colors are true to life, it really is that blue!  We had GREAT weather, and our cruise ship got the closest that they were ever able to in the boat’s history. This is my husband’s favorite picture from our whole cruise, so I had it made into a canvas for his birthday. The canvas turned out really nice, very professional looking and the colors were perfect.

Holly was in Nepal on a trip enjoying being on the top of  Kala Patar which has the best view of Mt. Everest, the tall peak on the right.  “I was so very pleased with this wrap around that I ordered from Canvas on Demand.  It turned out beautiful!”

I especially loved this canvas we made for Howard of a trip to Yosemite.  “Half Dome is in the background.  I am a professional photographer, and Canvas on Demand is where I go for all of my customer’s canvas orders. They are extremely professional and do a fantastic job. If I ever have any problems, they respond quickly and are always there to help.”

When planning your next vacation, remember that “fun in the sun” doesn’t have to be on the beach.  I could possibly be near a mountain ski lodge or on a glacier.  And don’t forget your camera!  Mom
