A Little Curl

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

There was a Little Girl   (by H. W. Longfellow)

There was a little girl/who had a little curl/right in the middle of her forehead/and when she was good/she was very good indeed/but when she was bad/she was horrid.

This poem came to mind as I perused our website’s Showcase today.  I found myself delighted with the sweet “curly” canvases we have created for several of our customers.

How wonderful is this one by Theresa of her little granddaughter, Hannah!  She had it made for Hannah’s father for Father’s Day.  She told us, “I loved working with Canvas on Demand. They were very friendly and determined to make this experience a successful one. They were patient as I found a photo with the right resolution. I will be doing business with them again.”

Then another customer, Susan, asked us about making a canvas of her little Maggie taken in a vineyard in Escondito.  I love this one…and Susan couldn’t have been happier! “ I LOVE my Canvas portrait from Canvas on Demand and plan to order more from this same company. The product turned out absolutely beautiful and looks unique in my living room.”

This next canvas is the kind that every parent hopes for when they aim their camera at their child!  Erica told us that when she snapped this precious photo in a pumpkin patch, she was very excited with the background around beautiful little 3-year-old Gabrielle!  “I feel honored to write this testimonial about Canvas on Demand.  I literally could not say enough good things about you. I have been so happy with everything. The quality, the fast service, and how carefully you package up my canvas. There have been so many times I have ordered things online and when the box arrived at my door it looks as though someone had run it over or already tried to open it. I am very picky. I worked for several years at photo labs so I know about color density. You have done such a fabulous. Photography is my passion. I have many images I want to have made into canvases. You will definitely have my business for many years to come.

Those precious curls/on boys or girls/look best of all/on a canvas on your wall!  Mom

Denise’s Main Points

Monday, November 14th, 2011

One of our Canvas Crazies (folks who register online with us because they are crazy about our products) recently told me they were fascinated with our Customer Showcase because when visiting it the other day they began to connect some of the canvases into a collection of sorts in their imagination.  So they actually copied a few images and forwarded them to me.  They called this little collection Mane Points.  I want to share it with our readers.

We will begin with a canvas we made for Carla who told us:  This is my favorite photo of all time. I was out riding my horse Cheyenne, and we were crossing the creek on our ranch. Cheyenne stopped to look around and to get a drink of water, and I saw the magic that was in view. I feel so lucky to have gotten this shot and when I look at this picture.  And you folks at Canvas on Demand were so helpful.  I received my picture in a timely manner and there was absolutely no damage from being shipped! Thank you.”

Mane Point #1

The next Mane Point of this article is in regard to a canvas we created of an alpaca named Gandolf for Kelly. “He is one of our amazing little boy alpacas and he has so much fleece on his face and legs! He is a beauty!  My husband is a photoshop geek and did some fun manipulation to give this photo some interesting layers.  We absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our canvas!! We would tell others to order with complete and utter confidence. These folks do a wonderful job! We will definitely be ordering from them again!”

Mane Point #2

Jeanine sent us an image—another Mane Point—that I have shared with many friends.  She said that Rupert is such a ham when he plays in the snow. He loves the camera and the camera clearly loves him too!”

Mane Point #3

When I received this collection from the Canvas Crazy, I was delighted by the next image that struck her fancy.  Well, it’s a Mane Point for sure too!  Customer Nicole’s son “was caught on camera just waking up with the morning light was coming in.  He is looking out onto the balcony.”  What a handsome young man, Nicole.  I am sure this will be a family favorite for many years to come!

Main Point #4

And thanks to Denise for sharing her Mane Points collection with us and our readers.  What do the rest of you see a collection when you visit our showcase.  If you do, please let me know.  Mom

The Possibilities are Endless!

Monday, October 24th, 2011

Once these lovely fall days are over, many of us focus on redecorating projects at home before the holidays.  That means there will be lots of reasons to consider a few new art canvases for your home or office.  It seems like the perfect time for an article about some of Canvas on Demand’s options.

Gallery-Wrap:  Our most popular canvas choice for customers who don’t plan to use a frame is called a Gallery Wrap—a canvas image wrapped around a 1.5” wood frame.  It offers a nice clean look.  The portion of the canvas that wraps around the side can be made of the image itself…or it can simply be white or black.

Frame:  Then there is the option of ordering your canvas with a frame.  Our classic, high-quality premium frame creates a timeless look for your canvas photo. All frames are custom made to order. You can choose from four different styles.

Frames

Photo Realistic or Pixel Painting: Another choice our customers enjoy is selecting either a Photo Realistic or Pixel Painting finish.  Photo Realistic give a canvas just like your photo; Pixel Painting creates the look of a traditional oil painting. To create the Pixel Painting effect, we don’t use filters. Instead.  Instead, one of our artists uses a specialized tablet and stylus to create brush strokes by hand to capture the unique details.  You will want to choose this technique when reproducing portrait style photographs where the subjects’ faces are prominent or any time you want a beautiful painterly effect.

Like brush strokes?

Other Options:  Now here are a few artsy options for you:

  • PhotoSplits are a great way to take one image and create a canvas grouping. They’re an excellent design solution for larger spaces.
  • Wall Displays are a great way to tell a story with gallery wrapped canvases.  They are also a good way to save money, since Wall Displays are 20% cheaper than if those same canvases were purchased separately.
  • Collages:  Sometimes you have so many great photos that you just can’t narrow it down to one. Don’t worry, we have found a great option to help you, Collages can be created from as few as 2 photos. Or, if you’re the trigger happy photographer who has hundreds of photos we have something called a Photo Mosaic.  No matter how many pictures you have or who is the lucky recipient, there is the perfect choice for you.

A Horse of a Different Color

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Horses and colors go together!  I was stunned by a few horse canvases we created for customers recently.  June developed an amazing image and told us how she accomplished it:  “I took a photo of my horse Missy, using my computer, gave the photo a painted effect, and also changed the coloration.”  And what awesome results you got, June.  She asked us to make it into a 30 X 60 canvas, and she hung it on a high wall where it had plenty of space to be admired.

A Creative Canvas!

Michael sent us a photo which he calls Three Horses. He told us, “These three mares belong to one of several wild horse bands near Placitas, New Mexico, north of Albuquerque.  I’m a repeat customer, so I wasn’t surprised at the quality of the images. Service is great, and I’m impressed with how well you package your product!”  I am curious, Michael, how you got close enough to those wild horses to snap such a wonderful close-up.  And thanks for your continued business.

Wild Horses

The next canvas is filled with color!  Carol says, “Autumn Colors was taken in October in the Catskills, NY. The young lady’s orange suede jacket really added ‘pop’ to the gorgeous leaves and the Appaloosa mare. The bond between the girl and her horse is obvious. It’s been about a year since I first received COD’s generous offer of a free 16×20 canvas. Thanks!”

Horse and Fall Colors

Gary is obviously very proud of his photo and his horse! In his testimonial he says, “This is the 2009 National Spotted Saddle Horse World Grand Champion. There is no better way to showcase a moment like this than with a canvas.  The service is always great. I have tried other companies, but Canvas On Demand has the best quality canvas and stretcher bar construction. The Beehive hangers are fantastic. And the shipping is top rate.”

A Champion

Thanks to all these customers for their kind words and for sharing their images.  Late summer and early fall are perfect times to enjoy those beautiful horses!  Mom

What’s Cooking?

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

I’m still on my trip around planet Earth, and I have especially enjoyed the markets and groceries and spices.  I’m seeing food-related options every day that I’ve never seen before.  A few Canvas on Demand customers have also taken special notice of such offerings as they traveled.  If you’ve never thought about taking a photo of things edible and turning it into a canvas to hang in your home, maybe this article will give you some new ideas.

Veronica and her hubby were in Barcelona’s La Boqueria where a display of sparkly chocolate balls caught their attention. “Every time we look at that canvas, it reminds us of Christmas and the joy that comes with the Christmas season.  We are super satisfied with the service and care that you provide your customers.  The actual picture on canvas is exceptional. It looks like a professional took the picture!”

And Patrick actually hung his canvas of a storefront in Assisi, Italy, on his kitchen wall!  “The store sells assorted foodstuffs and the window is packed with different items.   I will be ordering a second canvas soon of a deli storefront.”

I especially enjoy this last one by a customer named William.  It is of a fruit stand in the Dominican Republic.  It reminds me so much of all the great fruit and vegetable stands I’ve been seeing in Indochina as I travel this month.  He wrote to say that the service was “FANTASTIC!  Am I happy? You bet!”

So if you plan to do some traveling this spring, keep you eyes open for all things edible.  That next photo may end up on your kitchen wall!  Mom

Weathered and Rustic but not Forgotten

Monday, March 14th, 2011

I enjoy antiques, especially primitive wooden items.  There is something very compelling when wood weathers.  It evokes thoughts of survival, seasons, textures.  It makes me think of things once valued and now forgotten.  Alan must appreciate such things too based on the canvas he asked us to make for him of this photo of a meter on an old house in Maine scheduled to be demolished.  He said:  “This shot is my favorite as it evokes the feeling of an Andrew Wyeth painting of a weather-worn Maine structure.”  I appreciate the image and Alan’s choice to have this art piece framed rather than gallery-wrapped.  He took advantage of one of our promotions and was, in the end, quite pleased.  “It exceeded my expectations. I will be back again and again.”  I especially love that flash of green you captured, Alan!

Julie is another customer who obviously appreciates the weathered look.  So much, in fact, that she had this image made into both her Christmas cards and a canvas!  “This was our family Christmas card. My husband and I are in front of the barn, and my kids and daughter-in-law are in the loft.  I’m thrilled with the results!”  This canvas speaks to me about the agelessness of family.  Thanks for sharing it with us,  Julie.

And this canvas we created for the Patrick’s home proves that it isn’t just weathered wood that makes an engaging backdrop.

So if you have something weathered and rustic, but you want to assure it is never forgotten, capture it on canvas.  Better yet, capture it twice and give one away!  Mom

Wheels

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Tony and Eric have their own ideas about what makes a great canvas.  They’re not focusing on flowers or landscapes…but on WHEELS!

Tony from Sanford, Florida explains that his original photo was taken at Bike week in Daytona Beach, Florida.  “It is of a row of Harley Davidson motorcycles all lined up. Canvas on Demand was amazing!  Not just the quality of the work but the quality of their customer service. Nowadays, it seems almost impossible to get good customer service. Canvas on Demand went above and beyond to make sure my order was handled perfectly.  Thanks!”

Eric from Fishers, Indiana, snapped this racecar at the Watkins Glen Race Course in New York during the Indy Pro Series Race.  “I am a sponsor of an Indy Pro Series team, and I also do the photography for the team’s website and the drivers’ website.  I ordered this canvas to give to our driver as an end-of-season gift…but right now, it’s hanging in my office and might never move!” Eric complimented Canvas on Demand on our service and quality, saying he could only describe us in one word—WOW! “You guys gave me super quick delivery and excellent quality.  I get many comments about the mounting, and you can be sure I’ll be placing more orders for other clients.”

Thanks to both of you for two splendid orders!  Now what is it they say about “men, boys, and their toys?”  Mom

One, Two, Three…Macro!

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

When I was a child, our local newspaper had a puzzle right next to the crosswords that challenged us to guess: What’s this photo? It was a macro shot of a common image like driveway gravel or a pine cone or someone’s nose.  It was fun, but it certainly was not art.

At Canvas on Demand, we often see macro images that are both fun and art.  Today macro photography allows us to appreciate details on canvas that our eyes are not capable of seeing.  Here are a few of my favorites that I hope will inspire you to…get ready; get set; zoom!  Mom

Wendy from Randolph, New Jersey, had us turn this photo to canvas.  “This is a photo of a dahlia that I grew in my garden.  It was taken by my husband. We had it blown up to a2 ft x 3ft canvas, and it hangs over our bed as an anniversary present to each other.  The service was fantastic and the final canvas photo enlargement is out of this world.  The detail, even at that large size is unbelievable– so clear and crisp; yet, on canvas, it looks like an incredible painting.”

Kate from Las Vegas, Nevada, said this about her macro. “ This was an ‘art house’ type of image…no people involved, a macro shot using a selective focus technique. It is a monotone of sea shells.  Your service was brilliant! So in the end, my order was a large triptych (60″ x 90″) of a macro, selective focus, monotone, shot where overall exposure, highlights, shadows and texture were very important. The team at Canvas on Demand was very helpful and responsive to my concerns, and the finished product is fabulous. This canvas photo really makes a statement! I can unhesitatingly recommend them.”

Bill from Tempe, Arizona, asked us to enlarge this image of a Brazilian Agate which he photographed in macro mode.  “I love what Mother Nature has done with these one-of-a-kind agates and the creative image they portray. I photograph numerous types of beautiful agates and have them printed onto canvas which creates a very nice piece of giclee artwork to hang anywhere in the home or office.   I was amazed at the quality I received from Canvas on Demand and plan to use them for all my canvas prints.”

Fun and Funky!

Monday, September 27th, 2010

We take pleasure in turning your special photos into amazing canvases.  We also delight in the creativity of our customers.  We’ve learned over the years that people snap photos for many reasons–to capture a special event, a beautiful scene, a precious memory, or simply to keep a record that mark’s time.  But once in awhile, we have a customer who just simply wants to create something FUN and FUNKY!

Like Paul from Calsbad, New Mexico who had us create this unique canvas of a Longhorn cow and her calf.  “I over-exposed the picture, and it reminds me of some water color paintings that I had done. Everyone that sees it,  just loves it!  Already, I’m wishing I’d ordered it in a larger canvas!”

Or just take a look at what Allison from St. Louis accomplished when she used color and light for composition and came up with this bright and compelling piece.  “Thanks for calling me with your suggestions,” she told us, “because I love the way it turned out.”

And while we’re talking FUN and FUNKY, here’s one of my favorites.  It’s by Chris from Barlesville, Oklahoma, and it was hard to believe it when Chris told us that it was actually a poor shot before using Photoshop CS3 to spice it up.  Our staff ended up with a great canvas and a happy customer.  “The color reproduction was exceptional!  Thanks, Canvas on Demand!”

Well, it just goes to prove what I say all the time.  Our customers are some of the most creative folks on earth!  Mom

Canvas on Demand Offers Endless Possibilities

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Do you realize how many choices you have when you order a canvas from us?   Choices are good, but what is even better is that Canvas on Demand’s Customer Service Team is as close as a toll-free phone call if you need help making those choices!

Once you decide which favorite image you want turned to an awesome art canvas, there are a number of options.  You can choose the size; you can decide if you want your canvas gallery-wrapped or framed (check out our lovely assortment); and you can opt for one of two styles—PixelPainting™ or PhotoRealistic™.

PixelPainting™ canvases are created by using a specialized tablet and stylus that allow us to create brushstrokes by hand to give a beautiful painterly effect.

Choose PhotoRealistic™ when you want to maintain the integrity of the original image. Our artists evaluate your image then balance and enhance the color.  They also adjust the sharpness and contrast levels accordingly and even repair minor imperfections in order to optimize the image, making your canvas look like the original subject.

I had to laugh at an email I received yesterday from a customer named Brenda who said her canvas was so realistic that her dog thought it was REAL!

I received my Canvas on Demand order today.  AWESOME!!  I LOVE IT!!  Thanks so much for being so particular about the photo quality, and for the email and phone call to get it just right.  I will be coming back for more.  It was totally fun!  My dog was actually barking at the picture of himself today after it arrived.  It was hilarious!  Now I just need to get a canvas of my other dog made!  Thanks so much!  Brenda

Just think of all the possibilities…and visit our website for more ideas and choices.  Mom
