Are You the Big Sister?

Monday, April 9th, 2012

I love writing this blog, because when I sit down at my computer, I never know what’s going to trip my trigger.  I begin perusing the Customer Showcase testimonials until, suddenly…a canvas—or two or three—shout: “Write about me!”  And I do.

Today, I was captivated by images of big sisters.  I’m a big sis myself, and it’s one of my favorite roles in life.  My sister means the world to me.  Just last week, I came across a quote by author, Barbara Alpert, that I enjoyed.

“A sister. She is your mirror, shining back at you with a world of possibilities. She is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway. She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark. She is your teacher, your defense attorney, your personal press agent, even your shrink. And some days, she’s the reason you wish you were an only child.”

The first Big Sis canvas I’d like to share belongs to customer Sharon who sent us this photo of her two granddaughters at the beach and asked if we’d turn it into a canvas for her.  She later wrote to say: “I am very pleased with the service and finished product. I just placed my third order! I will order again and again.”  Thanks, we love that sort of feedback, Sharon!

I enjoyed the coloring in this next canvas that we created for a customer named Mark.  He explained that The photo is of two of my grand-daughters taken by my daughter during a visit to Disneyland. My daughter utilized Photoshop to fade some of the color. Canvas on Demand’s service was great and simple to use. I uploaded a high resolution .jpg of the photo via the internet, ordered a 16×20, made payment, and had the canvas a week later. The clarity and quality are excellent.

Now how sweet is this lovely black and white of Darrin’s children?  He told us how pleased he was with the finished product.  “The service was great and you made sure it was delivered in time to give as a gift. You also sized it accordingly, so it was perfect.”  It is hard to go wrong, Darrin, when you have a snapshot as precious at this one!

I am always fascinated with the stories behind the canvases, and this one touched my heart.  Janet told us about her older daughter—in the midst of an important day—stopping to include her little sis.  “This is a photo of my girls.  The day was 100% humidity, and we were having our older daughter’s senior pictures taken.  She made sure her little sister was included. The canvas was so easy to order.

Maybe my next post will feature brothers, but today I had a great time writing about these wonderful images of sisters.  Mom

Canvases from Abroad

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

I just returned last night from a family vacation to Belize, Central America. It wasn’t your typical trip—we stayed in jungles and rainforests in order to visit shut-ins in their homes, teach in remote village schools, and deliver supplies to teachers who work hard with scarce resources.  So you readers won’t be surprised that I am particularly taken with folks today who have asked us to make canvases of their global adventures.

I will begin with an image that has not yet become a canvas.  This photo was taken by my daughter of the school children from a village called Duck Run 2 in the Cayo District of Belize.  The children were very excited that we were coming, so they made welcome signs to greet us.  This is a memory we will never forget!   It is often irresistible to pass up a canvas opportunity when you have an unforgettable moment captured with the snap of your camera like this one.

One of our customers, Natalie, also had such an image which she sent to us—a photo taken in Jodhpur, India. “I am thoroughly pleased with my experience with Canvas on Demand. They were so professional and helpful, keeping me informed the whole way. They even upgraded the size free of charge to make it look its best. I would definitely use them again.  I have recommended them to all my friends and family.”

Carrie Anne asked us to create a canvas from an image she captured in Africa. “I vacationed in Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar. There were three photos that I especially liked, and I sent them to Canvas On Demand. The canvases that were sent to me were simply spectacular. The quality was beyond excellent and the service was timely. Even though I had chosen a particular size for my photos, a Canvas on Demand representative called and said that the photos would look better in a larger size. They said that they would upsize my photos at their cost. The service and quality of the product from Canvas on Demand was superlative.”

And a final  photo snapped on a global vacation is from Nancy. “We recently visited Japan. Before we left, we asked our son and his wife what they would like for us to bring them. They said that they wanted a print of cherry blossoms.  I am thrilled with the result. Not only is the finished photo wonderfully printed, it is also stretched so nicely onto the wooden frame. With all of the luggage restrictions, it would have been impossible to give our children a gift nearly this nice.”

Now there is another reason to order a canvas from Canvas on Demand. You don’t have to carry it on the plane!  So the next vacation–whether you are stateside or abroad–think CANVAS!  Mom

Little Water-logged Water Dogs!

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

One of the best things about warm weather heading our way, is that children can take to the water.

I happened to notice several great canvases of kids having water fun today and decide to showcase a few.  Patricia asked us to create a canvas of her son, Colman in Hawaii.  “We were swimming when a group of green sea turtles came along and started riding the waves with us. It was an unforgettable moment, and I was so happy to capture it on film.  I love Canvas on Demand. This was the third and best photo I had you guys transform into a beautiful piece of art. The photo was taken underwater, so the clarity was not the best.  But you worked your magic and as you can see, it is beautiful. I highly recommend Canvas on Demand! Excellent to work with and fast turn-around. Thank you.”   Thanks for a wonderful image and a great story, Patricia!

Kevin captured a wonderful image of a boy named Eddie who was catching a wave in Carpinteria.  Kevin told us, “The first picture we sent in wasn’t of good enough quality so your people called and suggested we not use it.  We sent another, and it turned out great. It’s now hanging over his bed. Great service.”   We want to exceed your expectations.  So pleased you are satisfied, Kevin.

Nick sent us this image of of a young man swimming frestyle in the 100 yard freestyle at Badger Aquatics Club in Madison, Wisconsin.  “The service was amazing. Excellent product and even better packaging…no way that canvas could have been damaged. Great care!”

If you like to see action on canvas, this next one is an amazing example.  Thanks for sharing it with us, Jen.  I love hearing the stories behind the canvases.  “On the last day of school, we took our daughter to the lake.  And managed to capture her sheer joy about the starting of summer—all in one jump!  We were thrilled with our purchase and love this great work of art.”

Hats Off to the Little Ones!

Saturday, March 17th, 2012

Someone decided to put a hat on the baby and say “smile”!  You’d be surprised at how many delightful baby-in-a-hat canvases we make!  And it’s no wonder we create so many.  Just look how cute these little ones are.

Elaine told us that her father wanted pictures taken of his great-granddaughter, Ele, in his field of sunflowers, so off they went.  “And daddy was right.  The photos were beautiful. I decided at the last minute to have a 20 x 20 canvas of little Ele made by “Canvas On Demand” for Daddy.  The service was prompt, courteous…and we were all very pleased. Mama and Daddy were both thrilled to open this present!”  Elaine, this canvas and that little great granddaughter must surely be your parents’ pride and joy!

Julieta sent us this image of The Little Bean at seven months.  I had the best experience at Canvas on Demand! Great customer service–quick, professional…and they can solve any picture problem. Very easy company to work with.  A++++++!  There should be more companies like Canvas on Demand!”  Now that is a grade that makes our staff very proud, Julieta!

Hats are not just for girls, and Andrew’s little son proves it.  “He is a new Cardinal fan,”  Andrew wrote.  And I bet his dad is a Cardinal fan too.

Little purple frills on the head of  this little girl would make anyone smile.  Amy tells us “it’s our sweet angel at 7 months old.”  She goes on to say, “We have ordered two 16 x 20 canvases and have been thrilled with the results. We can’t wait to have a whole hallway showcasing our baby girl!”  I love it when an entire room or hallway is filled with our canvases.  Please send me a photo of that huge showcase when it is finished, Amy.  I’d like to feature it on this site.

The Dog Nose!

Sunday, March 4th, 2012

I’ve asked my granddoggy, Quincy, to help me with this article.  He knows/nose dogs so much better than I, so he is sitting here by my computer helping me select a few great testimonials about dog canvases.  Quincy decided on some close-up images, then suggested I title this post, “The Dog Nose!”  He’s a very brilliant dog, and a terrific editor.

Check out the nose on Gia’s husky, Nick.  “He is 13 years old and the best dog ever. I take terrible pictures, and you guys made this photo look like I actually knew what I was doing.  I had a wonderful experience with Canvas on Demand. Jen was my customer service rep, and she was so nice and helped me out with my order.  The canvas is absolutely beautiful!!!  I will do business with you folks again in the future. Kudos to such a wonderfully run company!”

Quincy loves gardening.  (He digs perfect little holes in them.) One of our customers named Lillias asked us to create a canvas of her 7-year-old Shih Tzu, Brie, enjoying a flower.  “While exploring the yard this summer, she became interested in a purple globe flower growing several inches from the wall on which she stood. I was able to capture the moment when she leaned way out to sniff the blossoms. I love the contrasts in color from the white of her fur to the bright purple and green of the flower. It captures her personality well!  I wasn’t sure how this photo would look blown up, so I chose a border color and gave Canvas on Demand some ideas about how I wanted it cropped.  Then I left the rest up to them. The result is fantastic! It’s more than a photo of my dog – it’s a piece of art.”

Quincy and I both liked this next image of Lincoln.  “He is my 13-year-old daughter’s dog and her best buddy,” says Donna.  She snapped this shot of him, and I knew I had to turn it into a canvas for her. We just re-did her bedroom, and it will be a wonderful addition.  This is my second canvas order and there will be more in the future. Your service, communication and delivery are superior. You have a fantastic company offering an incredible product…thanks so much!”

This article was so much fun to write with my granddoggy’s help.  I had a difficult time getting Quincy to understand we couldn’t use 100 testimonials!  Thanks to Donna, Lillias, and Gia for sharing the stories behind their canvases.  And thanks to Quincy who asked me to end the article with this question:  Have you hugged your dog today?

Wild Things on Canvas

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Sometimes I am taken with soft gentle images on canvas, images like babies or fields of flowers or butterflies.  But today I was captivated by the WILD THINGS!  Immediately, Carrie Anne’s canvas caught my attention—zebras in big bold stripes!

She told us: “In the summer of 2008, I vacationed in Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar. There were three photos that I especially liked, and I sent them to Canvas on Demand. The canvases that were created for me were simply spectacular. The quality was beyond excellent and the service was timely. I have sent an email to my friends recommending this company. Even though I had chosen a particular size for my photos, a Canvas on Demand representative called and said that the photos would look better in a larger size. They said that they would upsize my photos at their cost. The service and quality of the product from Canvas on Demand was superlative.”  Wow, Carrie Anne, that’s a testimonial that I’ll pass around here at our facility.  Thanks so much for the kind words.

Then I noticed Jillian’s baby baboon!  (Well, how could I misse it!)  She took the photo of this orphaned sweetie while she was in South Africa.  I love how the canvas turned out, I’m ordering more soon!”  Well, I can hardly wait to see what you send us to top this one, Jillian.  Just look into those eyes!

Whale, whale, whale, look at what Jennifer asked us to turn into a canvas for her.  This is an amazing shot.  “This was a whale that decided to jump in on the fun while we were on our Dolphin Excursion in Ko’Olina, Hawaii this past Christmas.  The most amazing sight I have ever captured!”  You have every right to be proud of this one, Jennifer.  The colors and the details are spectacular.

Then here is another wild but tender canvas by another customer named Jennifer…this time of a precious little koala.  “My husband and I took a trip to Australia over Christmas this year. My husband is OBSESSED with koalas. On our 2nd day there, we went to the Koala Conservation Centre on Phillip Island. There were so many koalas. This one was sitting perfectly for an amazing picture. I’m still pretty impressed by this picture!  Canvas on Demand was easy to use. I just uploaded my image. The service was fast and excellent.”

I love the canvases, of course.  But I especially love the stories behind the canvases!  Mom

Colors that POP!

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

If you want to see some popping colors, just take a little visit to the OUTDOOR section of our Canvas Showcase.  I found myself perusing some of our recent testimonials there and was amazed at how some of the colors exploded…especially when the customer got up close and personal.

Jason was actually shooting for the Heliconia plant during a visit to Costa Rica.  “But then, out of nowhere comes this green throat Hummingbird.  It was like it flew in for its portrait. And it made for this great canvas.  Thanks Canvas on Demand.   I highly recommend you to Pros and Novices alike.”

Just look at the colors in this gladiola canvas that we created for Roger.  He thanked us.  “It turned out excellent.  You are great folks to work with.”

And Marshall captured this next image in Vienna.  What an array of bold colors that nearly jump right off his canvas!   He told us that it’s going up in his kitchen.  Perfect!  In his testimonial to us he wrote:  “I have recommended COD to friends based on my experience and have used COD several times since.”   Now we love hearing those words, Marshall!

When Matthew gave roses to his wife, he never thought they’d end up hanging on his wall!  But he snapped a great photo and it turned out to be—as he says—“a true piece of artwork!”  Matthew, I’m sure you are as proud of that image as we are of the canvas we made for you.  He went on to explain his experience: “When I first sent the picture in, I received an email from Canvas on Demand letting me know that the size of the frame I chose (16×20) would crop out some of the picture. They told me they would modify the size to fit the picture (16×24) free of charge. I absolutely love how the canvas turned out. The color and appearance are fantastic. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that. The enlargement I did of the photo turned out great; however, the canvas version is truly spectacular!”

Andrew managed a “win” when he tripped the shutter at the Hudson Hot Air Affair 2011 Moonglow.  “This image took 1st place in the photo contest.  It was my first contest win. Great work, Canvas on Demand.  My canvas was perfect. The order and shipping were both fast and the quality was second to none. I will buy more for sure.”  Well, Andrew, we congratulate you on your win!  And we look forward to seeing more of your great work in the future.

Popping colors and popping testimonials.  Keep them coming.  They make our day!  Mom

Shaping Up Very Nicely!

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

Many of our customers pay close attention to SHAPE.  In fact, I often see orders come in for canvases made from photos of shapes.  Yes, just intriquing shapes!

For example, Robert told us about his canvas: The Canvas on Demand folks are great to work with. When I got rid of the TV in our bedroom, it left a big empty space in our entertainment center that I wanted to fill with something appropriate. I live in a semi-artsy community where several people have placed their old TVs outside as yard art. I wanted to take that concept and give it a little twist. So here is what used to be my least favorite image from my early TV watching days. Is it art? You decide.  Now, Robert…that is pure FUN!  Thanks for sharing.

Shaping Up in an Old TV!

Look at the shapes in Joanna’s art canvas!  I love her story, and I bet you will too.  A friend of mine from a collage class drew the girl as a black and white ink drawing on an 8 x 10 sheet of paper and wrote out Bible verses of encouragement and self-esteem for women. My friend is one of the most colorful people I know–full of life and joy. So I decided to scan the drawing and color the girl the way that I saw my friend. I loved it so much that I decided to hang it in my office as well as get another Canvas to share with her. Canvas on Demand has just been an excellent way for me to express my art in a big way. It turned out very professional and more than I could have asked for. When I read your testimonial, Joanna, it made me wish I had several of those black and white images, so I could color them the way I see some of the wonderful people in my life.  Maybe your friend should consider creating a coloring book for adults.

Shaping Up in Color!

My last example is a canvas we made for Courtni.  She created a personal energy mandala and asked us to make it into a canvas wall hanging. This is what Courtni had to say.  My experience with Canvas on Demand was a super smooth transaction from start to finish. I was looking for a place in town (I live in Phoenix) to print my mandala on canvas when I just happened to come across Canvas On Demand! How does it get any better than that? Because of the shape of the photo, I upgraded to a 24 x 24 square canvas. Upgrading and customizing the size on the site was easy–just a few clicks. I love the live chat feature on the website! I used it to find out when my canvas had been shipped and learned it was being loaded that very minute. Canvas on Demand emailed me a tracking number, and I received the canvas one day earlier than estimated. A very smooth transition and AWESOME QUALITY!

Shaping Up into a Mandala

We at Canvas on Demand are always learning from our customers…and I love passing the lessons on to our readers.  So now I hope many of you will begin looking for interesting and colorful shapes while you are strolling around with your camera.  One of those clicks of the shutter just might end up on the wall of your home or office!  Mom

Autumn Leaves. Canvases Don’t.

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

I just took a long drive from the Midwest through Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.  The lovely autumn colors that had fallen from the trees up north were still brilliant the farther south I went.  So I suppose that is why I was thinking FALL as I prepared to write this article.

For example, Heather asked us to create a canvas from a precious photo of a little boy named Tucker who was pheasant hunting.  She told us that she “had originally sent in another photo to Canvas on Demand.  But they contacted me immediately that they were not 100% with the quality of the picture and asked if I had another version or a different picture.  It turned out beautiful!”

Another customer, Cathy, placed an order and wrote this testimonial:  “I am a professional photographer and needed a sample to show my customers. This photo is of my granddaughter. My customers are raving about the quality of the photo on canvas. I am very pleased. Canvas on Demand is #1 on my list. Your consultants were very professional and called me about the resolution on two of the photos that needed to be changed. That made all the difference in the finished product. Thanks to a great team, Canvas on Demand!”

And finally, Bonnie asked us to make a canvas from a photo of her son’s first visit to his grandparent’s house in Iowa.  “He was in awe of the piles of leaves everywhere!  I love, love, love Canvas on Demand and couldn’t be happier with the canvases I’ve ordered.”

So I see there are at lease two ways to hang onto autumn a little bit longer.  You can take a long drive sourth…or you can have an art canvas made of your favorite fall photo.  Mom

Help Us Spread the Word

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

My last post about Pfc. Brett Wood makes me want to remind readers of two very important Canvas on Demand initiatives.

The first is a program called Operation Hi Honey.  It is our way of honoring and supporting our troops who are deployed overseas… and their spouses who are holding down the home front.   Operation Hi Honey awards hundreds of our deployed men and women a free art canvas, printed from a favorite photo, which will be presented to their Honey on their anniversary.   It’s a way for soldiers to say I love you… and it’s a way for Canvas on Demand to say to our troops, Thanks for a job well-done!  Last year, our staff created hundreds of these canvases for our troops.

Here is an example of one soldier’s canvas which was sent to his wife on their anniversary.  Here’s what Gordon wrote to accompany the canvas:  “I had a fellow airman take this while I was standing on a ladder to surprise my wife. I am always thinking about her and hate being away from her and my family. Her strength helps make my important job easier while I am away from home.” (See the canvas at the end of this post.)

And the second project I want to remind you about is Canvas on Demand’s Doing Good program.  Are you involved with a non-profit organization that is doing great work in your community?   Or have you or someone you love been touched by such a group?   Canvas on Demand wants to offer our support and encouragement by presenting them with a $100 Canvas on Demand gift certificate to be auctioned off at their next fundraiser.  It’s just one way we can cheer on the good works of local non-profit organizations across America. Christine from an elementary school PTO just wrote us saying:  “Thank you, thank you, thank you! We had a great Spring Festival and people were excited to participate! The auction was a great success due in part to Canvas on Demand!”

Keep these two Canvas on Demand projects in mind and pass them along to the people on your address list to help spread the word.  Our staff often says that these efforts are the best part of their jobs.   Mom
