Oh, the Love in those Canvases

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

We at Canvas on Demand see so much love in canvases that our customers order.  Love shines through in images of babies, children, pets, ancestors, weddings, etc.

For example, Jill asked us to create a canvas wall hanging of her parents that was taken 70 years ago.  She told us:  “The photo 70 years old.  It’s of my parents at a Sunday School picnic when they were dating in 1941. I had it done for my Mother’s 86th birthday. Daddy died two years ago, after 67 years and one week of marriage to Mother. This is going to be a special treasure for her. When I opened the package today and saw the finished canvas for the first time, I stood and cried. It moved me.  It took my breath away. You did such incredible work: touching up some flaws in the original photo, adjusting the contrast of the black and white photo just enough to make it sharp while maintaining the appearance of an aged photo. You helped me select the perfect size frame to retain the most of the picture. And finally, you made sure it arrived in time for Mother’s birthday! When I ordered this canvas, I had no idea just how lovely it would be. I send you blessings and thanks from my heart.”   Jill, thanks so much for those kind words.  This canvas is a heartwarming, and I can only imagine how blessed your mother is by your gift.

We often hear that a dog is man’s best friend.  Well, this loving canvas of a dog and his master proves it.  Carol, our customer who placed the order, explained it to us. “This is Chris and Harley just before her first Christmas with us. After we rescued her earlier in the year, she went through a huge transformation from a neglected, sickly little pup to this wonderful, vibrant bully. We just had to capture her first holiday season as part of our family. This photo is Chris’s favorite, so I had it made into a canvas and gave it to him for his 35th birthday.  We couldn’t be happier with it. This is my husband’s favorite picture of them. He mentioned how much he would like to have it enlarged and framed. So, I did even better and had it created into a gallery canvas. I surprised him with it as a birthday present. He was speechless! We couldn’t get over the detail and quality. Job well done, Canvas on Demand! We look forward to preserving more memories with you.” Indeed!  That’s exactly what we love—preserving memories for our customers.

Ann made me smile when she posted this testimonial to our Customer Showcase.  How precious are these two little boys!  Ann said, “They are my grandsons. I did a canvas wrap for the oldest of the two when he was newborn on the same bedspread. Now I am adding this one to the collection.  I like that I can order a custom size. So easy to upload and order. Thanks!”

Now I think I’ll end this post with a lovely traditional poster that exemplifies LOVE—a wedding canvas.  Melissa sent in the order and told us:  “This is the happy couple! Love the photo. Love the customer service. Love the canvas. Thank you so much for your professionalism and kindness.”

Who is on Your Family Tree?

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

I laugh when I look up at my family tree.  I see all my Italian relatives from my mom’s side—Uncle Angel and Aunt Teresa or Dominic and Louise; and then that whole eclectic cluster of branches from my dad’s hometown of Froglevel, North Carolina.  It’s no wonder I have such a hard time figuring myself out!

I have my house up for sale, and as I began to pack for my upcoming move, I spent hours sidetracked, thumbing through old family photos with my magnifying glass in hand.  I carefully examined faces with no names and whispered aloud.  “She has my eyes.  He has my nose.” And all the while I was imagining what unseen internal characteristics each one might have passed on to me.  Where did I get my passion for adventure?  Which one instilled my love for nature?

Isn’t it remarkable the journey we travel just spending a few precious moments with a single old ancestral photo?  Years ago at an antique farm auction, I watched as a box of faded old black and whites were placed on the block.  I assumed they were precious to the last owner of the farm, an old woman who had recently died.  The auctioneer tried hard to get a bid—any kind of bid.  Call me a sucker, but I finally offered a dollar and hauled them home, simply because I felt those memories—even though they were not mine—needed to be honored.  (Which of my ancestors can I blame for that part of my heart?)

Sometimes I enjoy clicking endlessly though our Customer Showcase of vintage photos (http://www.canvasondemand.com/testimonials/Vintage/5/1.html).

I don’t know anything about that man doing the handstand on the beach, but I imagine he meant the world to Nancy from Wadsworth, Ohio.  She tells us it is of her 84-year-old father when he was in his 20s.

And how I wish I could have been in the audience to hear the mariachi band that Dyan’s father-in-law played in decades ago (love the added red accents).

Charles from Odessa, Texas had us create a canvas of his father, William, who was a driller on oil rigs in west Texas in the 40s.  What character and strength this photo portrays!

So here’s to our family tree!  Hundreds of our customers are keeping their histories alive by having Canvas on Demand create heirlooms from their favorite vintage photos.  We can do that for your family too.   Mom
