Vintage!

Sunday, November 11th, 2012

I can’t get enough of vintage canvases.  I sometimes just relax with a cup of java and peruse Canvas on Demand’s vintage showcase.  I am always surprised at what I see there.  Of course, the majority truly are retro…but occasionally one of our customers sends us a current shot that simply has a vintage flavor.  That was the case with Cody’s chuck wagon canvas.  He told us, “this classic-style image was actually taken in 2011 at a Chuck wagon cook-off in Marble Falls, Texas. The wagon is old Studebaker.  I absolutely love my new canvas and couldn’t be happier!”

Collette’s canvas of an old typewriter sets my memory soaring back in time.  She told us that she took the photo with her cell phone and simply added the fonts and other accents.  “I can’t wait to hang it in my house!  I have used Canvas on Demand for a lot of canvas projects, and they are always top notch!”  Thanks, Collette for such a nice compliment.  I will look forward to seeing more of your amazing and creative images in the future.

Kelly knew as soon as she saw this old gold mining dredge in Dawson City Yukon that she wanted a canvas of it hanging on her wall at home. “They are amazingly huge and spectacular!  And of course, Canvas on Demand is always fast, reasonably priced, and very easy to use.”

I saved this one for last!  Deborah asked us to make a canvas of “Aunt Mim during her radio days”  Now that canvas will put a smile on lots of faces today!

I never cease to be amazed at the way so many of our customers have such a creative eye and keen imagination.  I have learned from them to expect the unexpected!  Mom

Oh, the Love in those Canvases

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

We at Canvas on Demand see so much love in canvases that our customers order.  Love shines through in images of babies, children, pets, ancestors, weddings, etc.

For example, Jill asked us to create a canvas wall hanging of her parents that was taken 70 years ago.  She told us:  “The photo 70 years old.  It’s of my parents at a Sunday School picnic when they were dating in 1941. I had it done for my Mother’s 86th birthday. Daddy died two years ago, after 67 years and one week of marriage to Mother. This is going to be a special treasure for her. When I opened the package today and saw the finished canvas for the first time, I stood and cried. It moved me.  It took my breath away. You did such incredible work: touching up some flaws in the original photo, adjusting the contrast of the black and white photo just enough to make it sharp while maintaining the appearance of an aged photo. You helped me select the perfect size frame to retain the most of the picture. And finally, you made sure it arrived in time for Mother’s birthday! When I ordered this canvas, I had no idea just how lovely it would be. I send you blessings and thanks from my heart.”   Jill, thanks so much for those kind words.  This canvas is a heartwarming, and I can only imagine how blessed your mother is by your gift.

We often hear that a dog is man’s best friend.  Well, this loving canvas of a dog and his master proves it.  Carol, our customer who placed the order, explained it to us. “This is Chris and Harley just before her first Christmas with us. After we rescued her earlier in the year, she went through a huge transformation from a neglected, sickly little pup to this wonderful, vibrant bully. We just had to capture her first holiday season as part of our family. This photo is Chris’s favorite, so I had it made into a canvas and gave it to him for his 35th birthday.  We couldn’t be happier with it. This is my husband’s favorite picture of them. He mentioned how much he would like to have it enlarged and framed. So, I did even better and had it created into a gallery canvas. I surprised him with it as a birthday present. He was speechless! We couldn’t get over the detail and quality. Job well done, Canvas on Demand! We look forward to preserving more memories with you.” Indeed!  That’s exactly what we love—preserving memories for our customers.

Ann made me smile when she posted this testimonial to our Customer Showcase.  How precious are these two little boys!  Ann said, “They are my grandsons. I did a canvas wrap for the oldest of the two when he was newborn on the same bedspread. Now I am adding this one to the collection.  I like that I can order a custom size. So easy to upload and order. Thanks!”

Now I think I’ll end this post with a lovely traditional poster that exemplifies LOVE—a wedding canvas.  Melissa sent in the order and told us:  “This is the happy couple! Love the photo. Love the customer service. Love the canvas. Thank you so much for your professionalism and kindness.”

What Do You Call It? We Call It Nostalgia!

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

With the holidays right around the corner, our thoughts turn to family.  Jane Howard said, “Call it a clan, call it a tribe, call it a family.  Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one…”

If you are trying to come up with the perfect gift idea, why not give the gift of nostalgia?  Just look at the amazing heirloom quality of these canvases.  Now these are gifts that never stop giving!

The canvas we made for Connie is of her parents’ wedding.  It was taken in 1949.  The photo is a close-up wedding portrait of my parents.  It was a colorized black and white and not very good quality.  But Canvas on Demand more than exceeded my expectations. When they determined it could not be worked on as a large canvas like I had ordered, they contacted me, and we discussed options. The final product was a spectacular 8×10 in a perfect frame. I am so happy, I am ordering three more.“

Wedding Memories

Paulette was equally happy with her canvas.  She told us: “This is a high school graduation photo of my grandmother Leone dating back to 1908. This is an incredible image, and one I will cherish forever.  I cannot stress enough the perfection in customer service and restoration to final product rendered. I have already recommended this site to many friends. The finished product is absolutely beautiful.”

High School Memories

Now here is a gift that Elissa gave to her father for Christmas, and I’ll bet it’s one of his most treasured possessions!  “The photo is of my great x 4 grandfather, a Union officer in the Civil War with all officers. The service was excellent! The photo was in very bad condition and the restoration was amazing! I can’t wait to give the canvas to my father for Christmas!”

Patriotic Memories

And finally, I love the canvas that Sulaisman had us make for him.  It’s all about community leadership.  “Yes leadership.  A very important black and white portrait of leadership in my community with family members in there too.  I requested someone to call me to assist with actual dimension of frame depending on picture quality. A person called me and spent the time needed to explain which dimensions would look nice and kept assuring me that the canvas would be beautiful. I added touch up service level one and was pleased.”

Leadership Memories

How can there be any doubt about the perfect holiday family gift?  Now is the time to start digging out the treasures, making decisions, and placing your orders.  You won’t be disappointed when you give a bit of nostalgis to family loved ones!  Mom

Avocado Smiles and More

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

When snapping a shot, we often say: “Smile for the camera.”  And lately I’ve noticed some rather out of the ordinary smiles.  I’ll begin with a sweet vintage image we turned to canvas for one of our customers.  She told us: “This picture was taken 40 years ago of my three little daughters laughing.  It is a happiness picture, and it had been lost for 20 years. I looked in the back of an old scrapbook and there it was. Forty years was not too long to wait for you to make it into a beautiful canvas that will be a keepsake!  I love the canvas and will soon order two more for my other two daughters’ birthdays. Your service was excellent; every email I sent with a question was immediately answered. I can’t wait to give this canvas as a present, I am so excited.”

Vintage Smiles

Another delightful canvas was one we made for a customer named Tasha.   I call it A Sweet Pink Smile.  Tasha explained: “This is one of our favorite photos of our daughter laughing at age 3 months. I ordered a canvas as a gift for my husband, and he loved it.  The service was outstanding, and the canvas is absolutely beautiful!”

A Sweet Pink Smile

I laughed at the energy in this next canvas taken in Key West by Sara.  “This photo was taken with a point and shoot camera. I was not expecting it to turn out so clear!  I am even more happy with my Canvas. Thanks!”

Jump for the Camera!

I can assure you that if I had just jumped out of a plane, I would not be capable of smiling for the camera as Nick did on his 26th birthday!  Way to go, Nick!

Happy Birthday, Nick!

And I’ll end with my favorite smile on the lovely little face of Ellen, the daughter of Robin who simply told us that it was hot out and Ellen was ready to eat some avocadoes!

Now ask someone you love to “Smile for the camera!”  Mom

More Than Vintage

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Our Customer Showcase has several categories like Family, Kids, Nature, Vacation, but the one that draws me most often, is the one titled Vintage.  Ok, I admit it; I can be pretty nostalgic and reflective.

Rosa's Typewriter

And I love recalling the past and noting how things have changed.  So it’s no wonder that I am delighted at how our customers can put a twist on the theme.  Take Rosa for example, who tells us simply:  “A personal photograph of our old typewriter.  And Canvas on Demand wowed with great quality!”  That canvas is wonderful and edgy and retro!  I love it, Rosa.  Please tell us where you will hang it.

I also think you will enjoy this melancholy one by Kyle.  It certainly grabbed my attention.  “This photo pays homage to my late grandfather and his favorite cocktail. The day I received the news, I decided to made myself a Manhattan in honor of Grandpa, and while I was sipping on it, I had a vision of this scene. After taking this photograph and having it printed on canvas, I think the Manhattan has become my favorite cocktail too.”  What a touching way to honor your grandfather.  It made me wonder what I would combine and photograph in memory of the dear ones in my life.  Perhaps they aren’t with me anymore…but the canvas would serve as a reminder.  Thanks for a great idea, Kyle.  He also wrote a testimonial: “Your website is very easy to use and, more importantly, the finished product looks exactly like what I imagined, which is no small feat. I’m very satisfied and have already recommended Canvas on Demand to my friends.”  Kyle, I think your grandfather is smiling!

Honoring his grandfather

And I had to share this one with our readers, especially the women.  Anthea told us: The photo was shot in 1977 at the Winton Place along Lake Erie at a hair show that my husband, Scott, held for fellow stylists. The hair was cut in front of an audience and photographed at the show. Canvas on Demand did a terrific job and we had the front view of the photo done also. They hang side by side in our hair salon in Beachwood, Ohio: Full-Circle-Studio. What fun!  Thanks for sharing this story with us, Anthea. Those are two stimulating pieces that you are using commercially and bringing lots of smiles and memories to your customers at the same time.

Details of the Past

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Whenever my brother, sister, and I get together, we often take out a box of old family photos and three of our most powerful magnifying glasses.  What fun it is to look for all the finite detail in our mother’s kitchen or on the Thanksgiving table 40 years ago at our Aunt Theresa’s country home.  It makes me realize that when you look at the past, the small things tell much of the story.  I think that’s why I enjoy all the canvases we make from vintage photos.  So many of the testimonials thank us for pulling out all those fine and often faded details that mean so much.

Aliyah had us create a wonderful canvas of her parents. Her testimonial reminded us of how our expertise and commitment to customer service can make a big difference in the lives of our customers. “My brother and I dug up one of the few wedding photos of my parents. We wanted to give a canvas to them on their 25th anniversary. The photo was old, terribly aged, and of poor quality. This one was really a challenge.  Customer service contacted us multiple times regarding the photo and asked what we hoped to accomplish on our modest budget. Everything went smoothly. And all of the representatives I spoke with were extremely kind and considerate. And the canvas was beautiful! It actually brought tears to my parents’ eyes! They were so impressed that you caught every detail, things that were barely visible in the original photograph. Thank you so much!”

Aliyah's Canvas

And then there’s Glenda, who sent us a spectacular 1903 vintage photo of her grandparents. She wanted to share it at the 83rd annual family reunion.  She told us it was a hit and generated plenty of discussion about their family history.  When I look at the canvas, Glenda, I can certainly see why.  It is a wonderful family heirloom!  Mom
